Gerstell Academy Gerstell Academy is a Pre-K through 12th grade leadership based school. Today, Gerstell Academy stands as the first leadership school established in Maryland.

Gerstell Academy began with a class of seven students in 2002 and has since expanded to over 400 day-students on over 250 beautiful rolling acres in Carroll County, Maryland. Gerstell Academy is devoted to the development of leadership skills with an emphasis on physical fitness and to the mastery of fundamental knowledge in a traditional college preparatory curriculum. Our students attend top colleges and universities and return to campus as successful, well-adjusted college students with an attitude of "fitness for life" and a feeling of preparedness. Gerstell offers students an educational program of excellence in a community focused on the school's Mission, Motto and Leadership Principles and Attributes. The four pillars of a Gerstell education include: Leadership, College Preparatory Academics, Physical Training, and Modern Language Proficiency.

VISIT THE AMAZON RAINFOREST AND MACHU PICCHU

Dr. Greenspoon and Dra. Greppi are accepting applications for the Gerstell community's first-ever trip to Peru! Highlights include Machu Picchu, the Amazon Rainforest, the colonial architecture of Cusco, and the Andes Mountains! The trip is 11 days long in June of 2028 and is open to Gerstell students currently in 8th-11th grade. Learning beyond the classroom.

Gerstell Academy Middle and Upper School students recently attended the annual Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Membership Meeting, gaining firsthand exposure to economics, business, and community leadership.

Students heard from renowned economist Anirban Basu, connected with local business and civic leaders, and saw how the topics they study in the classroom connect to the world around them.

Engineering Design Process in action — Spirit Week costumes and all! 🛠️📐

Our 5th graders put their engineering skills to the test by designing and building the tallest paper tower possible. Along the way, they tested ideas, made adjustments, and learned from each attempt.

Meanwhile, our 6th graders took on a different challenge: designing and building their own cars using a variety of materials. They worked through obstacles, tested their designs, and made improvements along the way.

Two different challenges, one shared lesson: engineering is about more than building. It’s about imagining, testing, problem-solving, improving, and trying again.

Our first-ever Ceramics classes are officially underway, and students are already getting their hands dirty.

For their first project, they’re creating lidded pots with a special engraved finish, learning the process while adding their own creative touch along the way.

We can’t wait to see how they turn out!
