New Teacher Feature: Erin Bozek

Who: Erin Bozek, graduated from Eastern Illinois University in May of 2018.

Position: Erin teaches 5-12 band and middle school choir in the Okaw Valley School School District.
What she loves most about her job: "I love the variety of my job. In the same day, I get to see students start instruments for the first time along with students who have been performing for 8 years, and everyone else in between."

How EIU helped her prepare for success: "During my time at EIU, I learned how to plan and how to execute great lessons, but I also learned that adjusting on the fly is a key part of effective teaching. Each group of students will respond differently to certain teaching methods, and finding which one works for those students will help them be as successful as possible. Also, keeping in contact with my EIU friends and colleagues has definitely been helpful. Being able to bounce ideas off each other about different first-year teaching situations has been awesome."

Upcoming performances include: Effingham Marching Band Competition on 10/13, Pickneyville’s Mardi Gras Festival on 10/27, and a Holiday Concert on 12/8.

A correction from a post earlier this week. Picture retakes have not been scheduled yet. Today is Girls Basketball pictures. Sorry for the confusion. We are working with our girls to get forms and info to parents today.

Reminder to new students/5th grade - New student orientation will be at OVMS on Friday @ 3:00 during registration. Students will get a brief tour of the facility and classrooms. Staff will be available to answer any questions.
