University of Findlay's Modern Languages held their bi-annual Language Tasting on October 13th. Students from Japanese, Spanish, American Sign Language, and others who wanted to learn about the languages came. Every student was able to experience learning something from all 3 of the languages we offer on UF campus. Students learned Katakana and how to write their name in Japanese, they learned how to sign yes and no along with the days of the week in ASL, and they learned how to say they like or don't like something in Spanish after tasting some Mexican candies.

Dr. Gordon’s SPAN 328 Spanish-American Culture students took a trip to the Detroit Institute of Art last Saturday to see the Diego Rivera murals, the Day of the Dead ofrendas displays, colonial and indigenous art/artifacts, and watch the Ballet Folklórico de Detroit perform authentic Mexican dances. They also got to explore Mexicantown Detroit’s rich Mexican culture and heritage. ¡Viva la cultura y diversidad!

Welcome back to spring semester 2022! Our Student Spotlight this week is on Desiree Smith, congratulations Desiree!

Activities: Japanese Culture Club secretary; Club Rugby
Why I chose UF: I chose UF not only because of the excellent Japanese and TESOL program that they have, but because of how hands-on and engaged the faculty are with their students. It's like a family.
What I love about teaching: The thing I love about teaching is the way the students look when they finally understand what they are being taught! It gives me a sense of accomplishment when others learn. That doesn't even include how amazing I think it is to learn a language! My previous Japanese and Spanish teacher made language so effortless and fun to learn, and I want my future students to feel the same way.
