I consider myself an expert on Extended Care. Do I know everything? Absolutely not. What I do know is what to look for, what is available and resources to find when YOU, as an adult child of a needing parent, are lost between their reality and your life. Somewhere, we all need to address the fact that we live much longer, but not with health. Very few people actually get to the end "still standing".
All I ask is that people read the article, think about the questions and apply the answers to what you have experienced. Have you helped a person with a broken leg? Have you helped someone by cooking for them? How about helping them eat because of surgery. The difference is, when we get older, we aren't going to "heal" or "get better".
It's time to address the elephant in the country. Our adult children are becoming care givers and the expense will sink bank accounts, retirements and productivity. Which one of these do you choose to live through?
