📚 Boone Honors Program Pinning Ceremony

The Boone Honors Program at Ferrum College began its activities for 2026-27 with a pinning ceremony on campus, led by Director Dr. Dan Caston and Assistant Director Dr. Nancy Brubaker.

The honors students learned about leadership opportunities, tutoring jobs available on campus, and a new online dashboard designed to track honors program requirements. They got new pins and photos, as well as enjoying refreshments and conversation.

Ferrum College welcomed new students on August 7, 2026, as the 2026–2027 academic year officially began! New Panthers kicked off Connection Weekend with the New Student Induction Ceremony in Vaughn Chapel and concluded their weekend on Monday, August 10 with a college-wide convocation and its annual Light of Knowledge Ceremony.

Together, these traditions marked important moments in Ferrum College history as our newest Panthers officially began their Ferrum journey. 🖤💛

🏆 Meet the newest members of the Ferrum College Sports Hall of Fame!

Ferrum College is proud to announce its 2026 Sports Hall of Fame class, honoring seven former student-athletes whose accomplishments reflect the College's tradition of athletic excellence and community leadership.

This year's class includes three football players, two baseball players, one softball player, and one women's lacrosse player. 🖤💛

🐻📚 A lifetime of stories has found its way to the page.

Ferrum College Professor Emeritus of English Peter Crow’s final book, “Staying Alive in Bear Country,” is officially available today. Inspired by his unforgettable tales of Old Joe Grady—a beloved character Dr. Crow created to entertain hikers and his own children—the novel reflects a lifetime of storytelling, adventure, and Appalachian wisdom.

Following Dr. Crow’s passing on this date in 2025, the project was lovingly completed by his family with the support of Ferrum College faculty. Professor of English Lana Whited led the final editing process.

As Dr. Whited wrote, “‘Staying Alive in Bear Country’ is the magnum opus of Pete Crow’s heart, his lifelong project, and a synthesis of many of his life’s passions and experiences.”

Join the Crow family for either of two book launch celebrations on August 8-9 and help honor Dr. Crow’s remarkable legacy of storytelling. 💛🖤
