Happy Lights on Afterschool Day! It's official, Governor Scott has declared that today, October 26, 2023 is "Lights on Afterschool Day in Vermont".

Lights on Afterschool is a non-profit organization that highlights the importance of afterschool programming for students and families. Afterschool programs, like our FCS CougarCare and Fusion, keep students safe while families work, offer opportunities to extend learning, and promote social, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

You can make afterschool shine in your community! Light up a landmark, memorial, or building in honor of Lights On. Organize a walking art show or a car or bike parade. Last Thursday in "Mindful Fun in Nature" with Sarah, Fusion kids collected pieces of nature to form mandalas. They pressed the mandalas in books for the past week and get to unveil them tomorrow!

Marshmallow tower challenge at Fun Club! Fun Club Fusion kids had 3 minutes to build the tallest tower using mini marshmallows and toothpicks

LEGO! One of the all time favorite activities, LEGO Builders & Board Games! A fun time working with others or independently to create with these awesome bricks. Or, if you're not into building, Ms. Alicia loves board games, she even taught friends how to play Candyland and Othello!

Yesterday was the first day of FCS Fusion ! At Fun Club, we played some silly games you can play at home:

Cup "ball" toss- two people hold cups opposite each other, try to toss a ball (we used a crumpled piece of paper) from one cup to the other using only the cup

Cotton Ball Challenge- 2+ people balance a cotton ball on their spoon. The goal is to knock off the other people's cotton balls while keeping yours safely on your spoon, the trick is you can't use your hands to touch the other person, their cotton ball, or to protect your own!

Winter-changing into mud season- Outdoor Explorers took samples of water from the creek yesterday, then observed the samples under mini-magnifiers. Only a moderate amount of muddy boots :)
