This summer, Ferris High School science teacher Mr. Patton participated in the STARS Teacher Internship Program at UT Southwestern, where he spent eight weeks conducting research alongside Dr. Wen-Hong Li and his team.

During the internship, Mr. Patton explored diabetes research, learning about the critical role beta cells play in insulin production. His research focused on investigating ways of stressing the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) in beta cells and how this process may contribute to the development of diabetes.

Mr. Patton's goal is to bring these authentic research experiences back to the classroom, giving students hands-on opportunities to explore real-world science and inspiring them to see that science is for everyone.

Experiences like these strengthen our classrooms, inspire our students, and demonstrate the incredible dedication of our Ferris High School educators.

🧡🖤 Ferris Debate is off to a fantastic start! 🖤🧡

Our students had an outstanding week at the Texas Speech & Debate Camp at UT Tyler, where they strengthened their skills, built friendships, and prepared for an exciting debate season ahead.

Congratulations to Lorelei Cruz and Landyn Davis for earning 2nd Place in the Novice Cross-Examination Division! We are incredibly proud of their hard work and achievement.

A special shout-out also goes to Stephen Toomey, who earned the “Poncho Prince” award from his camp group for being the most prepared for the rainy weather! ☔👑

Every member of our team represented Ferris High School with character, dedication, and a willingness to learn. We look forward to seeing all they accomplish this season.
