Thank you, Summer Campers! Tiny Onion camp was a blast!! Many recipes made, art projects created, friendships bloomed, sorbet and kale everyday (and everyone wanted more, of both!), and garden-love. I am so grateful for this fun and engaging time, and the feedback 💓🥰 More coming in the school year ahead….check here and/or the website for offerings. I should have classes posted by the end of this week or next, I am just awaiting some of my other schedules to click into place and finalize by Sept 3rd. Feedback on what you would like is helpful! Only mid-week through here at Tiny Onion Summer camp, and ALL the things I care about and love have been present and real and active: good healthy food, fresh flowers, collaboration, print and paper crafting, foraging, children trying new things and thriving, community-building, and skill-sharing. Oh, and healthy fruit sorbet every day! Oh, and praise from participants that this is “THE BEST CAMP I HAVE EVER BEEN TO!” (Shouted like that.) I couldn’t be happier with this experience and I hope those in Whatcom County spread the word to generate more interest in this interdisciplinary approach to camp: garden/art/food/words/crafts/farming. It’s been a dreamy time.

Getting ready for campers next week! Fresh no-spray blueberries from up the road, just picked this weekend, are frozen quick to supply us for some delicious berry sorbet! And watering our nasturtiums in this heat to keep them fresh and vibrant for salads, chips, and pestos! I’m far more comfortable in the kitchen and the classroom than I am on air or screen, but when given a VERY special opportunity to prop up Tiny Onion and what I offer the community, I can’t say no. TOMORROW, on Bellingham’s KAFE 104.1 the kids and I will be one of many local businesses and events sharing what we all do for local folks. Back from Puglia, Italy! Where the sea air and red-brown dirt make for great food. Olive trees and cobbled streets hundreds of years old, pasta everywhere, ancient ovens, delicious artful cooking in the simplest of ways, and granitas and gelato every day. It was a blur of flavor, color, kind people, and blue sea swims. Now back on our farm and hoping to share what we have learned in some of our Summer Camp days coming up! There are four weeks of half-day cooking camps scheduled in July and August and they start NEXT week, but I have to fill more spots to allow them to run. Please share with family and friends who hope to send kiddos to an experience of cooking, craft, and garden time here in Ferndale. Accomplishments yesterday: NEW website for all things Tiny Onion is LIVE! Check it out and share and peruse…https://www.tinyonionllc.com/. Still camp spots for kids to sign up this summer, and more. And….NEW young potatoes from our garden, a dinner of color and beauty and the intense flavor and texture that is a NEW potato….unlike anything from the store. Magic.

It’s that time of year when the initial harvest is plopped around the property: baby carrots and garlic scapes out on the counter with bowls of strawberries, kohlrabi on the front porch waiting to be peeled and prepped for our lunches or a slaw, and a handful of snap peas left on the garden bench while we w**d a little. Produce everywhere we look, and more starts going in simultaneously. A bounty. And a gratitude for our efforts.
