Our district teams, including maintenance and transportation, are currently assessing the impact of the storm on our facilities. In collaboration with Nassau Emergency Management and considering the ongoing need for shelters, we will provide an update on the return date this afternoon. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Effective at 9:00 p.m. on October 9th, 2024, the beaches within the unincorporated areas of Nassau County will be closed. This closure bans all pedestrian traffic, vehicular traffic, and horse traffic, except for law enforcement, emergency and turtle patrol personnel and vehicles, or individuals and vehicles deemed necessary by the County Manager.

STORM SURGE WARNING:
The National Weather Service has issued a Storm Surge Warning for Nassau County. A Storm Surge Warning means there is a danger of life-threatening inundations, from rising water moving inland from the coastline. The potential for 3-5 feet above ground for surge prone areas. If you reside in a surge prone area, we encourage you to consider moving to a safer location.

HURRICANE MILTON UPDATE, 10/8/2024, 11:50 AM:
Nassau County is forecast to be impacted by flooding rainfall, and storm surge of 3-5 feet above normal as the storm crosses the Florida peninsula and moves away from our coast Wednesday and Thursday.
In preparation, we are strongly encouraging residents who reside in the following areas to relocate to safer locations:
πΊ Zone A
πΊ Zone D
πΊ Beachfront, intracoastal and marshfront areas
πΊ Low-lying and flood-prone areas

Preparations are in progress to open a shelter on Wednesday. The location will be announced soon.

π’ Due to increased traffic from evacuees across Florida, US-1, Highway 301, and Highway 17 are currently experiencing heavy congestion. π¨ Attention: All schools in the Nassau County School District will be closed on Wednesday, October 9th, and Thursday, October 10th due to Hurricane Milton. Any updates regarding school closures or reopenings will be shared through our official district and school websites, as well as our social media channels.
*All after-school activities for Tuesday, October 8th, will continue as planned unless otherwise notified by your school.
π’ Once the storm has passed and recovery efforts begin, the district will provide an update on Friday's operations.
