Delicious farm fresh fruit and piggy bagels for snack. The children enjoyed putting the finishing touches on their barns and creating mini farmers too. Reading and writing stories all about pigs today made for another great day of summer school. Lots of time for free and creative play as well!

Down on the Farm - Day 2 was so much fun!
🍍🍍🍍We all enjoyed a very sweet and juicy pineapple that the children made into the cutest little healthy chick snacks! We adore all of the funny faces they created. 🐷🐰🐔Phase two on our Big Red Barn project was all about painting our barns bright red. We enjoyed some time in our garden harvesting beans and other treats for Rain and Lily the guinea pigs. 🐌We also added a new snail vegetable peeler to our food preparation lessons and practiced peeling carrots 🥕🥕🥕 for Rain and Lily to enjoy. Lots of homegrown learning going on this week!

What if children didn't need to be motivated, just trusted?

At the heart of every Wildflower school is a simple but radical belief: children are naturally good, peaceful, and curious. Given the right environment and the freedom to follow their interests, they don't just learn. They build themselves.

That's why Wildflower teachers focus less on delivering instruction and more on preparing environments where children can do their best thinking. Mixed ages, child-directed work, and a culture of peace aren't add-ons. They're the whole point.

This is the foundation of Authentic Montessori. And it's the first of nine principles that shape every Wildflower school.

🚜🌽Week 2 - We are “Down on the Farm”
Our Rain Lily students enjoyed running our Farmer’s Market today, purchasing 🍎 apples and 🍊oranges to prepare and share with a friend. They loved using the apple slicer and counting out the pieces, four for them and four for their friend. They used spreadable cheese, crackers, cheddar cheese and summer sausage to create tractors for snack.

We worked on phase one of building a barn and had fun creating tractor pictures too. Today also included some wonderful farm stories and lots of farm play. We can’t wait to get back to it tomorrow!🐷🐐🐴🐓🐄

🍳🥘That’s a wrap on a magnificent first week of Summer Enrichment at Rain Lily Montessori School! Today our young chefs enjoyed making their own fruit smoothies and harvesting and cooking garden vegetable fried rice! Each child went home with their very own personalized cookbook filled with all of the recipes they made this week.

“Chef Julia Child attended a Montessori preschool in Pasadena, California when she was around four years old, and she frequently credited this early education for her hands-on approach to cooking and her manual dexterity. In her book “Julia Child & Company”, she noted that her Montessori experience taught her the joy of working productively with her hands.”

“The small rituals, like the clean hands and clean apron before setting to work; the precision of gesture, like leveling off a cupful of flour; the charm of improvisation and making something new; the pride of mastery; and the gratification of offering something one has made — these have such value to a child. And where are they so easily to be obtained as in cooking?”
-Julia Child, “Julia Child and Company”

Our young chefs enjoyed a day of choosing “preparing cereal” as our Montessori food prep activity, harvesting vegetables from the garden, and working together to prepare a delicious chicken salad.

This Spring we made use of some of our fundraiser funds by purchasing a beautiful new Montessori dishwashing table, as well as a nice variety of new food preparation tools. The children enjoyed using the new grape slicer today. The funds we raise go directly into our programming and greatly benefit our students. We are forever grateful for this community!
