This week in F₂CO, students prepared supersaturated solutions of sodium acetate trihydrate. NaC₂H₃O₂•3H₂O crystals were placed on watch glasses as points of nucleation so as to disturb the solutions when they were poured. The disturbances allowed the formation of crystals from the solutions, which is why students could create stalagmites. Congratulations to Jeremiah for making the tallest stalagmite!

Happy last day of finals to M State students! F₂CO made a Chemistree last week to celebrate the holidays and the end of the semester! Members also were able to take home the soap the group made several weeks ago! Enjoy!
