Ke'ala 'O Kamailelauli'ili'i & Manawaiopuna The Ke`ala `O Kamailelauli`ili`i Foundation is the link that connects us to our past. The opportunity is ours to bring people together.

Ke`ala `O Kamailelauli`ili`i Foundation is a non-profit corporation and shall operate exclusively for the education and charitable purpose within the meaning of Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any Federal tax code. Ke`ala `O Kamailelauli`ili`i Foundation's purpose is "To perpetuate and preserve the teachings of Hawaiian Culture, Hawaiian Traditions and beliefs through language, songs, chants and dance; thereby bringing people together through cultural edification." The Ke`ala `O Kamailelauli`ili`i Foundation was established as a non-profit organization to support and promote the teaching and sharing of Hawaiian music, dance, language and culture. It is the platform wherein the cultural beliefs, teachings and ways of life of our Kupuna can be conveyed, thus causing a resurgence for renewal of identity, personal growth and kuleana (responsibility) and a revitalization of the Hawaiian people to holo mua (move forward) into the next millennia. Those that are Native to Hawai`i and those Hawaiians that are born abroad and throughout the world at large will have opportunities to be introduced and/or further educated to their native culture through Hawaiian arts and Hawaiian traditions. In addition, Ke`ala `O Kamailelauli`ili`i Foundation will offer these same opportunities to the public at large and other education institutions including, but not limited to performances, language, music, dance, workshops and history so that their knowledge of Native Hawaiians will also be enhanced. There's a place for you here. ❤️

If you've been curious about hula but weren't sure where to begin, this is your invitation. If you already dance and are simply looking for an evening to reconnect with hula and community, we'd love to welcome you, too.

Join us for a relaxed evening of hula ʻauana, learning, dancing, and togetherness. No experience is needed, and there's no expectation to commit to weekly classes. Just come with an open heart and a willingness to learn.

This workshop is a chance to experience our hālau and see if it's the right fit for your hula journey. If you choose to enroll afterward, your workshop fee will be applied toward a portion of your hālau registration.

Whether this is your very first time or you're returning to hula, we'd be honored to share this evening with you. We hope to see you there. 🥰

Celebration | George Naʻope Hula Festival 🌺

Eventually, the shock gave way to laughter, hugs from beloved friends, ice cream and bubble tea, and jumping into the pool fully dressed.

This celebration belonged to all of us. To each of us in hālau, our ohana, everyone who supported and believed, and everyone who held our hālau in aloha.

Day 3 | Awards Ceremony at the George Naʻope Hula Festival 🌺

By the time the awards ceremony began, everything that mattered had already happened.

Our wāhine danced, shared our hula, and honored our kumu. So we simply settled in.

Listening, laughing, cheering for one hālau after another. One of us even took a moment to rest their eyes.

No expectations. Just gratitude for the weekend we had shared together.

Then, in a moment none of us expected, we heard our hālau called.

The tears that followed weren't because we had placed. They came from everything this past year had held.

We had already begun to see the first signs of new growth. Hearing our name called didn't create that growth.

It simply became one more reminder that the quiet work of rebuilding is often bearing fruit long before we realize it.

Day 3 - Auana | Wāhine of Keʻala ʻO Kamailelauliʻiliʻi at the George Naʻope Hula Festival 🌺

The morning unfolded with the same gentle rhythm as the day prior— working on lei pāpale, helping one another dress, sharing mirrors and little moments of care.

Then Kumu took his place once again. Just his voice and his ʻukulele as the room quietly listened.

When they stepped off the stage, the work was done.
Together, they had offered their hula.
Everything after that felt like a gift.

And with that came the freedom to simply enjoy the rest of the day—sharing a meal, wandering the craft fair, laughing together, and receiving unexpected kindness from others they encountered.

Before our first steps onto the competition stage came these words from Kumu.
Words of perspective, hope and encouragement.

Words that reminded us to honor the journey, turn the page with intention, and make space for what is ready to grow.

Most of all, he reminded us why we were there. To celebrate hula, and to celebrate one another.

Like all living things, our hālau has known hulihia—an overturning, a cycle of change that creates space for new growth.

We came to competition with six wāhine, our kumu, a handful of supporters, and grateful hearts.

We didn't come chasing a placement. We came to honor our kumu, share our hula, reconnect, and continue rebuilding together.

And in the midst of rebuilding, our kumu stood once again with only what he had when he first began this hālau 30 years ago: his voice, his music, and his unwavering aloha for hula.

Then our name was called. 3rd place wāhine kahiko out of 11 hālau. Just one point behind 2nd.

This experience and all of the happy tears were not about a trophy. It was a reminder that every turning carries the possibility and hope of new growth and renewal.
