Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Annual Ice Cream Social on Thursday, August 27!

Sherwood Forest families enjoyed meeting staff, gathering important back-to-school information, and cooling off with a free ice cream treat courtesy of the Sherwood Forest PTA.

A big thank you to Ice Cream Express for serving a wide variety of ice cream and popsicles. Their excellent service helped make the event a great success.

While we are still finalizing attendance numbers, we can confirm that over 259 individuals were served during the event.

We would like to extend our gratitude to our dedicated staff, Sherwood Forest PTA, Right At School, and our amazing families for helping create such a positive start to the school year.

10 Tips for the School Year

The 2026-27 school year is right around the corner with the first day of school for grades K-12 on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. ECEAP Full-Day starts on September 9, and the first day for Developmental Preschool and ECEAP Half-Day is on September 14.

We’re excited to see returning scholars back in our building and give new FWPS scholars a warm and welcoming start.

Around this time of the year, many families are beginning to look ahead to the annual transition, which often includes shifting schedules, wrapping up trips and visits with family and friends, and sometimes a little shopping.

To help your child transition into the school year, we’ve put together a checklist of items to complete to be ready for the school year. Be sure to read the updated blog post, Get Ahead with This School Year Checklist, to learn about 10 things you can do now for a smooth and informed school year transition for your school.

Make preparing for the school year a manageable process to experience a smooth and informed transition for your family, and of course, your FWPS scholar.

Dear FWPS Families,

We're inching closer to the first day of school, and our school and district staff are preparing for the year ahead with professional development and planning.

As a reminder, the first day of school for grades K-12 is on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. ECEAP Full-Day begins on September 9, and Developmental Preschool and ECEAP Half-Day start on September 14.

Over the next couple of weeks, you may notice an increase in communication from your child's school and the district. We'll do our best to consolidate important information as much as possible, but please be sure to check messages — you don't want to miss back-to-school opportunities and messages from your child's principal or teachers.

We'd also like to remind you to complete Annual Verification if you have not done so already. It is required for all returning students and is where you'll update your family's information for the new school year. If you need to enroll a new student in your family, you can do that during the Annual Verification process. Families who are new to FWPS and do not have a ParentVUE account can enroll online as a new student.

🍎 Reminder: Washington SUN Bucks (Summer EBT)
As a reminder, eligible school-aged scholars will receive a one-time $120 grocery benefit this summer to help buy food while school is out.

What to expect: Most eligible families are automatically enrolled. Brand-new SUN Bucks cards and approval letters will begin arriving in the mail in mid-June.
Important check: Cards are mailed to the address on file. If you have moved recently, please contact the SUN Bucks Call Center at 833-543-3230 to update your mailing details.
