π‘οΈ Heat Advisory Reminder for Child Care Programs π‘οΈ
We are under a heat advisory today from 11:00 AM β 8:00 PM. Please take extra precautions if you are caring for children.
β
Make sure children have plenty of water throughout the day.
β
Consider limiting outdoor play to shorter periods (about 20 minutes at a time).
β
Schedule outdoor activities before 11:00 AM if possible.
β
Watch for signs of overheating such as flushed skin, excessive sweating, fatigue, or irritability.
β
Take frequent water and shade breaks.
Since it's so hot outside, let's share some ideas for keeping children active indoors while still getting those important gross motor skills in!
Here are a few ideas:
π Obstacle courses using pillows, cones, and tape lines
π΅ Dance parties and freeze dance
π¦ Animal walks (hop like a frog, waddle like a duck, crawl like a bear)
π Balloon volleyball
π Movement songs such as Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes
π Indoor scavenger hunts
π§ Kids yoga and stretching
π Soft ball toss games
π Follow-the-leader movement activities
π Action story time where children act out the story

π§ Dehydration Can Become Serious Quickly π§
With today's high temperatures, it's important to recognize the signs of dehydration before it becomes an emergency.
π¨ Common Signs of Dehydration:

Dry mouth or lips
β
Headache
β
Dizziness or lightheadedness
β
Fatigue or weakness
β
Dark yellow urine
β
Increased thirst
β
Irritability (especially in children)
πΆ For Children:
Watch for fewer wet diapers, lack of tears when crying, unusual sleepiness, or complaints of feeling hot and tired.
π‘ Prevention Tips:
π₯€ Drink water regularlyβeven before you feel thirsty.
π Eat water-rich foods like watermelon, strawberries, cucumbers, and oranges.
βοΈ Limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
π§’ Wear lightweight clothing and seek shade when possible.
β° Take frequent water breaks.
β οΈ Severe dehydration can become a medical emergency. If someone becomes confused, faints, has a rapid heartbeat, or cannot keep fluids down, seek medical attention immediately.
