Ever hear “God’s megaphone” over the sound of jet engines in your ramp job?

The degree to which we stop thinking about God when times are good may well be determined by how much of our attention has been captured by Him when times are bad. C.S. Lewis once called pain “God’s megaphone to rouse a deaf world” but even pain does not purify a wandering soul overnight. It may be that only repeated times of trial are sufficient to wrench us from earthly comfort and cause us to finally seek God as our all in all. This is not a particularly pleasant thought, to be sure, but it does seem to reflect the reality of a sanctification process that takes a lifetime.

"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

Throwback Thursday

“Throwback Thursdays” are a weekly journey into the past of our industry. If any of you have specific airlines/airplanes you’d like to see featured, feel free to “drop us a line” and we will see if we can find them for you.

The Lockheed L-1011 “TriStar” was a graceful jetliner in any color scheme, but perhaps the most beautiful of all were those in the 1972-era delivery livery of launch customer Eastern Air Lines (1928-91). The two-tone “Ionosphere” and “Caribbean” blue stripes mated with the creamy white top seemed made for this widebody tri-jet’s lines. Eastern called its L-1011’s “Whisperliners” referring to the, at the time, extreme quiet of the type’s three Rolls-Royce RB.211 engines (though quiet, these British-built engines did have a distinctive hum that many of us remember with affection).

It is not easy to make a lot of money in the airline business, but some of us have “done well financially” by the standards of the world. Are we using at least some of our resources to build for eternity?

Earthly wealth is a moot point if you have truly come to realize that “you can’t take it with you.” What is disturbing is that so many caught up in the rat race of Materialism today seem to be unable, or more likely, unwilling to face that fact. Because of this they are blind to the ultimate reality that the only permanent thing they potentially have is their souls. Who we are is what matters, not what we have, and who we really are ultimately is grounded in the status of our relationship with the One who made us.
