Skype a Scientist matches science classrooms with scientist from all over to give presentations to classrooms via virtual meetings (you don't have to use Skype. In fact, I don't think Skype even exists anymore). You can get details and sign up your class on their website:

“A $1 million gift from University of Arkansas alumni Bob and Becky Alexander will fund a comprehensive effort to explore the future of the University Museum, including a feasibility study led by Lord Cultural Resources, a global cultural consulting practice offering services for museums, art galleries and other cultural institutions.

The Bob and Becky Alexander University Museum Vision and Strategy Fund was created to support the strategic planning and professional expertise needed to guide the museum's next phase of development. In addition to the feasibility study, the fund will provide resources for consulting services and executive leadership support as the university evaluates opportunities to expand the museum's impact and role on campus and in the broader community.”

Despite being retired since 2024, Dr. Jami Lockhart (ARAS-Emeritus) is still giving presentations for the public! He presented about his research in Arkansas for the Tales and Traditions speaker series at the Fayetteville Public Library a couple of weeks ago.

Tomorrow in Arkadelphia!

Join us for Archeology Lab Day at the ARAS-HSU station in Arkadelphia tomorrow, August 6th, at Proctor Hall (1028 Henderson St., parking on street in front, entrance is at back). We're working on lab projects on Thursdays between 9am and 4.30pm with a break for lunch. No experience necessary, we will teach you!

Registration for the annual Arkansas Archeological Society meeting is open! This year's meeting is in Fort Smith!

The Arkansas Archeological Society Annual Meeting is September 25-27th in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Scholarships available for student attendees, application deadline August 15th. Keynote Speaker is Dr. Kary Stackelback, Oklahoma State Archeologist with Brenda Nails-Alford. Registration link in comments. Find all the details on our website!

The Arkansas Democrat Gazette published a nice article about the $150,000 NAGPRA grant that the Survey was awarded this year. It has a lot of good information, but we do wish that they had reached out to our Tribal Partners for their views on the grant as well. Hopefully you can see it on their website:
