Huge thank you to the Arkansas Beef Council for their continued support of the University of Arkansas Animal Science Department!

Through funding for University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Projects such as Beef Quality Assurance Program, Beef Short Course, Meat Education, Beef Quiz Bowl, and Educating Youth on Beef Promotion, this support helps provide hands-on learning, industry engagement, and educational outreach that strengthens the future of Arkansas agriculture.

We are grateful for the investment in our students, faculty, and programs, and for the partnership that continues to advance animal science and the beef industry across the state. 🐄❤️

Today the Arkansas Beef Council announced funding for projects aimed at supporting the growth and market development of Arkansas beef. In FY27, $35,000 will support research projects and $97,000 will support promotion projects.

Our ANSC students are having an unforgettable experience in Iceland through Study Abroad lead by Dr. Kathi Jogan and Dr. Ken Coffey! From exploring Thingvellir National Park and watching Strokkur erupt, to learning about Iceland’s unique landscapes and wildlife, this trip has been full of adventure, discovery, and memories that will last a lifetime.

More on Iceland Study Abroad:
On May 14, students visited a dairy farm in Iceland to learn about Icelandic cattle production and modern milking technology. Students observed an automated milking system that collects detailed data from each cow to support milk production, reproduction, and herd management.

Lauren Coffey, ANSC student, shared that one of the most impactful parts of the visit was seeing concepts from class come to life — including observing abnormal cattle behavior like tongue rolling and discussing how udder quality impacts production longevity. Students also learned how Iceland protects its cattle industry by not importing live cattle from other breeds to reduce parasite risks.

Experiences like these are what make study abroad unforgettable: connecting classroom knowledge with hands-on learning around the world. ❤️🌎

The ANSC Awards & Scholarship Ceremony was a wonderful celebration of excellence, dedication, and achievement across our department. We were proud to recognize outstanding students, graduates, and supporters who continue to elevate the field of animal science.

A special congratulations to our Advanced Graduates of Distinction: Dr. Dean Scarbrough (Ph.D.) and Ben Williamson (M.S.), along with Graduate of Distinction Daniel McFarland. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Farm Credit of Western Arkansas, honored as our Friend of the Department for their continued support.

Our student award recipients truly exemplify hard work and academic excellence. Congratulations to Robin Cheek (Outstanding Ph.D. Student), Jacy Riddle (Outstanding M.S. Student), Kate Henderson (Outstanding Undergraduate Student), and Braydon DeCounter (Outstanding Undergraduate Transfer Student).

We also recognized recipients of the Paul R. Noland Graduate Student Awards: Cameron Catrett (Ph.D.) and Jacy Riddle (M.S.), as well as students honored with ASAS Scholastic Achievement Awards and various undergraduate scholarships.

In addition, we celebrated students taking the next step in their journeys through professional and graduate school acceptances, and highlighted the achievements of our student organizations and competitive teams.
