The New School Northwest Arkansas' premier independent school serving one-year-olds through high school.

In 1971, The New School opened in Fayetteville, Arkansas as a non-profit organization with 24 students age three to six. Today, the independent school has more than 400 students from one-year-olds in the preschool through the 12th grade. Over the years, the school has seen substantial growth, in both the program and the leadership, but the philosophy and mission of the school have stayed very much the same. We believe that children learn best in a positive environment with careful direction and guidance from teachers who demonstrate care and concern for each child. We believe that a school should encourage exploration and inquiry in an environment enriched with opportunities in the arts and sciences, and we believe that a school’s instructional programs should ensure that students reach their full potential for academic achievement. To achieve these goals, we are committed to selecting outstanding teachers and supporting them with the highest quality of professional development.

Our TNS Debate Team traveled to Little Rock for the 2nd Annual AFG Gen Con Regional Congressional Debate. Anusha '29 was elected by her peers to serve as presiding officer, and Nicole '29 took 1st place to become a Regional Debate Champion!

All three competitors—Gray '28, Nicole '29, and Anusha '29—qualified for the State Congressional Debate Competition in April and were recognized as All-State Debate Competitors by the Arkansas Communication and Theater Arts Association. Congratulations Cougars!!

We were honored to welcome University of Tulsa President Stacy Leeds to TNS for a meaningful conversation about higher education, her journey, and what’s ahead for our students.

Today, fifth grader Grace took the stage at the NextUp Women’s Empowerment Summit, where she interviewed University of Arkansas golfer and 2026 Augusta National Women’s Amateur Champion Maria José Marín. ⛳️

Grace led the Q&A and represented TNS with confidence and curiosity. She even got to meet Jennifer Garner while she was there!

We’re so proud of Grace and this incredible opportunity to share her voice.

Our 1st and 3rd graders were back at the NWA Championship for the Kids Confidence Club to kick off Choose Confidence! 💙⛳️

Students spent the day trying new activities with local community organizations, cheering on professional golfers, and celebrating what it means to choose confidence. We love opportunities like this that encourage our students to step outside their comfort zones, try something new, and connect with our community. So happy to be back!

Something new is happening in Lower School! We kicked off our very first Cougar Summit—a new tradition designed to bring our K–5 students together as one community.

Each month, students will meet in mixed-grade groups led by our K–5 teachers for activities that build connection, collaboration, and social-emotional skills, while giving students the opportunity to share and celebrate what they’ve been learning in their groups. Meet our Head of School for a Day, Penelope ’36!

On Friday, September 11, Penelope got a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run an ECE–12th grade school. She read to our Pre-K students, answered questions from her 3rd grade classmates and met with different departments across campus.
