🇮🇹 A wonderful visit to the University of Arkansas Rome Center!

This summer, our Service Learning Director, Dr. Lisa Bowers, visited the Rome Center to collaborate with faculty and community partners, explore service learning opportunities, and discuss ways to continue expanding meaningful experiential learning for University of Arkansas students.

Throughout her visit, Dr. Bowers met with Rome Center leadership, participated in workshops focused on designing high-impact service learning experiences, and visited community partners to strengthen international collaborations that connect academic learning with real-world impact.

We’re excited for what’s ahead as Service Learning continues to grow both on campus and around the world. 🌍❤️

✨ Interested in making a difference while earning course credit? ✨

COMM 41003: Communicating Body Image is now open for Fall 2026! In this hands-on course, you’ll collaborate with a team to design and implement a community-based body image mentoring program for adolescent girls in Northwest Arkansas.

Through this experience, you’ll strengthen your communication, public speaking, curriculum design, and facilitation skills while making a meaningful impact in the community.

📍Rome, Italy 🇮🇹

Learning extends far beyond the classroom. During a previous University of Arkansas Service Learning experience in Rome, three students partnered with EWTN to help produce a feature from the Vatican. They conducted interviews with Vatican officials while gaining hands-on experience in scriptwriting, filming, lighting, and video editing, all while developing valuable intercultural communication skills.

Service learning creates opportunities for students to apply what they’re learning in meaningful, real-world settings while making connections that span cultures and industries.

Meet our 2025 Outstanding Community Partner: Community Clinic! 🤝

Jeremy Stark - Behavioral Health Director:

Over the years, I’ve had the honor of partnering with the University of Arkansas School of Social Work to mentor the next generation of professionals. Service learning allows students to bridge the gap between passion and practice, providing them with the real-world experience necessary for impactful careers. A true highlight of my professional journey is seeing my former interns thrive and make significant contributions to the social work field.

This partnership has significantly enhanced the Behavioral Health services at Community Clinic, allowing us to offer expanded support to our patients. Furthermore, we have had the ability to transition several interns into permanent roles. This provides students with a seamless entry into the workforce while ensuring Community Clinic gains skilled professionals who are already deeply familiar with our systems and mission.

We have truly valued our partnership with the University of Arkansas’ School of Public Health program and the opportunity to support students through service learning. Working with these students allows us to provide a real-world perspective on how public health is implemented in practice, beyond the classroom. The students consistently bring strong preparation, professionalism, and positive attitudes, making them a pleasure to work with.

This partnership has also been mutually beneficial for our organization. We have had the privilege of hiring several former interns who have transitioned seamlessly into their roles, already equipped with the skills and understanding needed to succeed. Their energy, fresh perspectives, and commitment to community health continue to positively impact our work.

So grateful for Community Clinic and everything they’ve done!👏👏
