If you were interested in joining the DFEND program, but preferred an online option, now is your chance.

The Department of Food Science is recruiting participants for their upcoming 6-week online DFEND nutrition and physical activity program funded by an USDA grant! The program includes weekly 60-minute online sessions, along with pre- and post-program nutrition, physical activity, and health surveys. Participants who complete the program will receive a $50 gift card.

Two online series will be offered beginning:

1. Friday, October 16 at 12:00 PM

2. Tuesday, October 20 at 12:00 PM

On Tuesday Washington County Extension Homemakers Council hosted our second ever Granny Camp program at the Mullins Library. Volunteers worked with University of Arkansas students and staff who were interested in learning English Paper Piecing. Today is the last day to register for the upcoming DFEND sessions in NWA! Please use the link below to register and check your email for a follow up from the DFEND team.

We are once again offering the DFEND program in Washington County! The 6-week class will be hosted in Fayetteville. To be considered for the study, you must complete the screening questionnaire below. The DFEND team will be in contact with more information.

Adults aged 18 years and older who live in Arkansas are needed to participate in a nutrition and physical activity education research study. The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, Department of Food Science, is conducting the DFEND Study (Delivering Food, Exercise, and Nutrition Education for the Prevention of Chronic Disease) to learn more about how multimedia nutrition and physical activity education can improve everyday health behaviors.

Participants will receive $50 for completing the study!

The study lasts 6 weeks and includes weekly in-person nutrition and physical activity education sessions led by local Cooperative Extension Agents or Team DFEND. The first and final sessions will be approximately 2 hours to allow time for assessments, while the remaining sessions will be about 60 minutes each. You’ll also complete brief surveys and simple health assessments (height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse) before and after the program.

Our "Money Talk" books have arrived at the Washington County Extension Office. Please call or stop by the office to sign up! This three-part series, held at the extension office, will provide information to help take charge of your financial future. The cost is $5 for a book. Sessions will start at 10am on the listed days and include:
