Welcome to UT Extension in Lincoln County. . . . UT Extension serves the citizens of Lincoln County by providing educational programs and research-based information in the areas of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community Resource Development and 4-H Youth Development. We are an outreach branch of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, providing research-based solutions and information to the citizens of Tennessee. Bruce Steelman is the UT Extension Agent in Lincoln County that works with Agriculture and Natural Resources. Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) information is provided by Emily Osterhaus; she is also the advisor to the Lincoln County FCE Clubs. The 4-H program is directed by Dan Owen; The TSU 4-H Agent is Allison Heffington and our 4-H Program Assistant is Debra Elliott. The office's administrative assistant (secretary/receptionist) is Tracy Dunn.

Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program (TAEP) has several important changes for the 2026–2027 application cycle. Here are some of the key updates producers need to know:

🐄 **LIVESTOCK FENCING — NEW PROGRAM**
• Available to cattle, equine, goat/sheep, and swine producers
• Covers permanent perimeter and cross-fencing
• Reimbursement based on **$2.00 per linear foot**, up to the program maximum($3,000)
• Added as an eligible program under the **Beginning Farmer Option**

🌾 **HAY PRODUCERS**
• Minimum hay acreage requirement reduced from **100 acres to 50 acres** of first-cutting hay production
• Eligible programs include:
* Farming Solutions
* Hay Equipment
* Hay Storage New Structure or new to TAEP "Additions (side shed or extension) to existing structure"

🚜 **FARMING SOLUTIONS**
Formerly known as Livestock Solutions, the program name has changed to allow additional sectors access to eligible equipment.
New/expanded eligible items include:
• Row Crop — rotary cutters/pasture clippers and fertilizer spreaders
• Hay — rotary cutters/pasture clippers and hay wrappers
• **Single-bale wrappers** are now eligible

💧 **LIVESTOCK EQUIPMENT — NEW ELIGIBLE ITEMS**
• Commercially manufactured automatic livestock waterers
• Hay feeders
• Virtual fencing — minimum purchase of 5 collars

🩺 **HERD HEALTH**
• The previous lifetime limit of three reimbursements has been removed.

💰 **FY26 PROGRAM MAXIMUMS**
• Livestock Equipment — $3,000
• Livestock Fencing — $3,000
• Genetics — $3,000
• Herd Health — $4,000
• Hay Equipment — $5,000
• Working Structures — $5,000
• Farming Solutions — $6,000
• Poultry Grower — $6,000
• Swine Producer — $6,000
• Hay Storage — $8,000
• Dairy Solutions — $10,000
• Row Crop Solutions — $12,000
• Producer Diversification — $12,000

These changes could open up TAEP opportunities for more Tennessee producers, particularly with the new livestock fencing program and reduced hay requirments.

📌 **Producers should review the full TAEP guidelines before purchasing equipment or beginning a project.**

Congratulations to UT TSU Extension Lincoln County dairy judging team — Maklaine Taylor, Katie Elliott, Kaylin Osterhaus, and Luke Bayless — on winning the State Championship and earning a spot at Nationals!

Dairy judging gives students the opportunity to learn more about dairy cattle while developing skills in animal evaluation, decision-making, and public speaking. Students evaluate cattle based on traits such as structure, dairy strength, udder quality, and overall conformation, then explain the reasons behind their decisions.
