Why I love Santo Domingo Xenacoj, Guatemala so much! Life is SO different here, and I truly love it! Everything is in walking distance. We wanted dinner, so we walked to town to get a simple Guatemalan meal. Central Park is a 5 minute beautiful walk. People say "Good evening" in the streets when you pass them by. SXenacoj is very very safe. Everyone knows everyone. This village is over 400 years old. I used to live here and truly love my time here. We have BIG plans to expand our ministry here next year. We currently have 4 full time karate teachers, teaching Martial Arts PE in 4 local schools, for a total of 1200+ students! Next year we'll expand to over 1500+ students, AND we're having meetings to see if we can expand to other towns. Amongst the Indigenous Mayans only 12% graduate High School and only 1% START University studies. Much less finish. SEED (Self-Esteem Enrichment & Development) is a program I started. Martial Art students are hired to teach PE, BUT the one requirement is they FINISH High School. Well, in our first year Jonny finished High School AND will be attending the University to become a PE teaching next semister! Man, am I a proud papa!
