Happy Graduation Day, University of Arkansas! 🎓

This commencement gown is from our historical collections, and was worn during a baccaluareate ceremony in 1896 by Mrs. R.E. Bagby. Bagby was a member of the first U of A graduating class to wear such traditional regalia. This ceremonial dress is still worn today. Congratulations to all the UA students who are completing the great accomplishment of graduation! We are proud of your hard work.

Happy Cinco de Mayo! 🎉

The celebration of Cinco de Mayo recognizes the Mexican victory over France in 1862 during the Battle of Puebla. During the 1860s in Mexico, a new design for copper coins was introduced to feature the Seated Liberty image. This specific coin from our collections is one of the original coins minted during this time at the Chihuahua Mint. We have a wide variety of currency here at the Museum, and this is just one of many fascinating coins in the collections! Come learn more about the coins of our past by booking your tour today!
