🌟 Check out all of our undergraduate speakers sharing their research at the 35th Annual Arkansas Art History Symposium, happening this week!
These students are from all over the state of Arkansas, including the U of A, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (), the University of Central Arkansas ( ), the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (), Harding University () and Hendrix College (). They will be convening at the Fine Arts Center on the University of Arkansas Fayetteville campus March 6 and 7, and speaking in groups for a total of 5 panels, categorized into the following themes:
The Diverse Voices and Visions of Arkansas: Past and Present
The Art of Identity
Art, Power, Space, and the Popular
The Icon and the Artist in European Art
Unsettling the Canon and the Archive
M.A. art history graduate students will serve as panel moderators at the event and were instrumental in the preparation of the symposium and served on the selection committee for the presenters.
“We are thrilled to welcome art history students and faculty from across the state,” said Akshaya Tankha (), assistant professor of art history and organizer of the event. “Students will deliver a 20-minute illustrated presentation on their area of research. For those who may be attending a symposium for the very first time, this is a wonderful opportunity to gain valuable experience in what it means to participate in an academic conference in a fun and supportive environment.”
📝 There is still time to register for the event, which will include a keynote lecture from Dr. Jennifer Marshall, Samuel Russell Endowed Professor of Art History at the University of Minnesota () on March 6 at 5:30pm in FNAR 314.

Call For Papers Deadline Extended:
35th Annual Arkansas College Art History Symposium

March 6-7, 2025
The deadline for the Call for Papers for the 35th Annual Arkansas College Art History Symposium, scheduled to be held at the School of Art, University of Arkansas over March 6-7, 2025, has been extended to January 26, 2025.
The School of Art at the University of Arkansas welcomes undergraduate students attending Arkansas colleges and universities to submit abstracts (250-word maximum) for 20-minute papers to be presented at the 35th Annual Arkansas College Art History Symposium on March 6-7, 2025.
We welcome papers that represent original art historical and interdisciplinary research on art and architecture from any historical period and geographical focus. Students who engage in their research with art historical and critical methods—addressing iconography, class, race, gender, Indigeneity, the economy, the environment, and/or decolonization, for example—are strongly encouraged to apply. Additionally, we welcome papers that explore AI visualization, urbanism, adaptive reuse, and/or curatorial practice. We also invite papers that are interdisciplinary in scope and focused on areas of research such as the anthropology of art and space as well as the study of cinema.
Please email the abstract by the end of the day on January 26, 2025, to Dr. Akshaya Tankha, [email protected]. Please include your name, major, year of study, college or university, and the name of your faculty mentor. Notification of acceptance will be communicated via email in the first week of February.
The 35th Annual Arkansas College Art History Symposium is being hosted by the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. We have an exciting line-up of events as part of the symposium, including a keynote lecture delivered by Prof. Jennifer Marshall (Art History, University of Minnesota).

Call for Papers
We are excited to share the Call for Papers for the 35th Annual Arkansas College Art History Symposium. This year the symposium will be hosted by the University of Arkansas School of Art in our Studio + Design Center March 6 - 7. Â
