Dr. Amanda Troillett and OTD year 3 student Rachel McIntyre represented GoBabyGo at the event on the UAMS NW Campus today.

Exciting news! We received a WE CARE grant to support an innovative Virtual Reality/Artificial Intelligence learning experience offered in our Occupations, Innovations, and Adaptations: Mental and Behavioral Health course!

Through immersive simulations, OTD students practiced working with AI-driven clients experiencing complex mental health concerns—all within a safe, supportive environment where they could experiment, reflect, and build confidence in therapeutic and empathetic communication.

This funding will help us continue refining the experience and exploring creative ways to prepare future OT practitioners for compassionate, responsive, and occupation-centered care.

We are grateful to the University of Arkansas College of Education and Health Professions and the WE CARE initiative for investing in innovative teaching and meaningful student learning!

We launched the AROTA mOTivate Conference this afternoon with engaging pre-conference trainings and the AROTA Awards Banquet, setting the tone for a truly inspiring day. Our very own Shaina Meyer was honored as Educator of the Year, while MaryAnn Talley, one of our year 3 students, took home the Student of the Year award. As we prepare for our Creative Arts Intervention course, these herbs will take center stage in our exploration of innovative strategies for integrating nature into Occupational Therapy.

Our PY2s had fun practicing automaticity using the Cupid Shuffle during Dr. Hux’s motor learning lab! 💃🎉 Professor Meyer even dropped in because the PY1s thought we were having too much fun in the classroom next door. 😂

Behind the dance, this session bridged instructional design and motor learning theories with real-time clinical practice:

🧠 Cognitive Load & Motor Stages
We observed how easily a learner drops from the autonomous back into the associative stage of motor learning. Students experienced how task constraints spike cognitive load, forcing the brain from "muscle memory" back into conscious overthinking.

👥 Social Cognitive Theory & Self-Regulation
Instead of a traditional lecture, we used peer-to-peer modeling. This minimized performance anxiety and boosted student self-efficacy, providing the self-regulation needed to successfully execute the motor program.
