CCS Launches Cumberland Family Academy:
Families join in each session ask questions that will align you in the right direction to support your children in remote learning...
Fayetteville, N.C. – Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and school starting remotely, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) remains committed to supporting families through the launch of Cumberland Family Academy.
Starting Sept. 24, Cumberland Family Academy will host virtual workshops on a variety of topics, including support with Canvas and PowerSchool, internet safety, academic success, community resources and much more. Access the entire course catalog here.
The sessions will take place virtually at 6 p.m. on Thursdays. Families can join each session, where they will be able to participate and ask questions. Additionally, CCS will post an encore of each session on the district’s page and YouTube channel on the following Tuesday.
“Right now—more than ever—parents have a tremendous impact on a child’s education, especially while children are learning at home,” said Lindsay Whitley, associate superintendent for Communications and Community Engagement. “We are here to support families as we all navigate through remote learning and eventually transition back to in-person learning. Together, we can forge strong home-school partnerships and set high expectations for children, encouraging them to work hard while also providing academic, social and emotional support.”
Cumberland Family Academy is part of priority four of the district’s strategic plan, which calls for the development of a district-wide family engagement outreach program. This initiative will provide parents with additional tools to support their child’s education and will bring schools, parents, caregivers and community organizations together as equal partners.
