Welcome to Week 2 of our September Manna U Moments series on Together.
Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." This week, we explore how the people around us can challenge, encourage, and help shape us into who God has called us to be.
Growth isn't always comfortable. Sometimes the people who sharpen us are the ones who ask difficult questions, challenge our blind spots, and encourage us to become better followers of Jesus.
At Manna University, education is about more than information—it's about formation, and formation happens best in community. So this week, consider two questions: Who is sharpening you, and whom are you sharpening?
We don't grow by staying dull and alone. We grow together.

POV from a student:
Life Change is the only way to describe the Filter of Hope mission trip to the Dominican Republic.

We know that God is all powerful, but there is a difference between knowing it and experiencing it. During this trip I actually experienced first hand the power of God, prayer, and spiritual warfare.

The spiritual warfare on this trip was VERY present. Like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. From showers not working, to motorcycles roaring back and forth during the gospel portion of our home visits. The enemy is a hater and tries everything to remove our focus from the mission. The good news is that the enemy has no power. Isaiah 54:17 says, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” I find it amusing when I realize the enemy is trying to distract me, because I know he has no authority and is just a sore loser!

I learned the power of prayer. Prayer actually works. What!? No way! As a believer I hear this all the time, but I didn't understand until I experienced it. You mean the things you prayed for actually happened? Yes. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to us. Pray with authority because YOU have it.

The Holy Spirit worked through me and in the hearts of the individuals we came to see. We have faith that God is who he says he is, but do we actually trust that when we call on His name, He will move? This is something I struggled with. In the Dominican Republic I learned to trust the Holy Spirit, to guide me, use me, and flow through me. None of the work that my human body did in the DR was because of me. It was the working of the Holy Spirit through me.

I have a new boldness and faith in Jesus. He gave His life for ours, rose on the third day, and now sits on the right hand in heavenly places. In John 14:6 Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” So many people are looking for the way in life, so many want the truth, and we have the key to all those things. Thank you, Jesus!

As Student Life Director at Manna University, I’m blessed to be able to work with our students, providing them with resources and prayer during their academic development. I also get to be involved in student leadership development through my role with the Student Government Association (SGA). While the SGA is certainly not the only way for students to develop Christian leadership skills, it can be a great opportunity for those interested in serving their fellow students through campus leadership roles.

For homeschool students, it can.
Manna University's Early College High School program gives students 15 and older an opportunity to begin taking college courses while they're still in high school. Here's what you need to know:
🎓 $75 per credit hour
📝 $50 one-time application fee
💻 Technology fee waived
📖 College courses while completing high school
Students will need to complete an application and provide the required academic records, references, and a 300–600 word essay about their conversion experience. Whether you're ready to explore college-level coursework or simply want to see what's possible, Manna University gives homeschool families another option to consider. Your college journey doesn't necessarily have to wait until graduation.

One of the most underrated spiritual disciplines isn’t listed in most books on Christian growth. It doesn’t require a study guide. There isn’t a conference built around it.

Still, I am increasingly convinced that it is essential for both discipleship and leadership.

Welcome to Week 1 of our September Manna U Moments series as we continue exploring our 2026–2027 theme: Together.
This week, we go back to the beginning in Genesis and discover that community was part of God's design from the very start. Before sin entered the world, God declared that it was not good for man to be alone. We were created in the image of a relational God and designed to live, learn, grow, and follow Jesus alongside others.
In a culture that celebrates independence, Scripture reminds us that we were never meant to do life alone. As we begin this academic year, take a moment to consider: Who has God placed beside you?
Don't overlook the people God has given you. We really are better together.

College life looks a little different for me than it does for some students. I am 53 years old, so I am not exactly living in a dorm, surviving on ramen, or calling home to ask how to do laundry.

But I am still a college student.

I still have assignments, deadlines, Community Learning Groups (CLGs), work responsibilities, family commitments, ministry, and those moments when I look at the syllabus and think, “Was that assignment always there?”

No matter our age or season of life, college can get busy quickly. That is why daily faith practices in college are so important. Whether you are 18, 28, 38, or 53, staying spiritually grounded often comes down to small, intentional choices that keep God at the center of everything else competing for our attention.
