Veteran Nollywood Icon Olu Jacobs Dies at 84

Veteran Nigerian actor, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84 on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Widely regarded as a cultural icon and a bridge between the old and new generations of African actors, he was celebrated as one of the godfathers of Nollywood.

His death was announced by his family. May his soul rest in perfect peace. 🕊️

Remembering Queen Elizabeth II On The Anniversary Of Her Death

Today we remember Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth Alexandra Mary of the United Kingdom, who died on this day, September 8, 2022 (21 April 1926 - 8 September 2022).

During her lifetime, she was queen regnant of 32
sovereign states and was head of state of 15
realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female head of state in history.

She passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle at the age of 96.

WOMAN FOUND ALIVE IN NEPAL HOME 10
DAYS AFTER DEADLY FLOODING

A 64-year-old woman has been found alive inside her partially buried home in Nepal, 10 days after a devastating wall of ice, rock and mud tore through a Himalayan valley.

Rescuers rushed to give water to Chandika Shrestha after finding her trapped on the fourth floor of her home in Nuwakot district. She was later airlifted to a hospital in Kathmandu for treatment.

According to local media, more than 1,300 people have been killed and over 5,600 remain missing.

Georgia Woman, Mabel Dunbar, Celebrates Remarkable 112th Birthday

Mabel Dunbar of Georgia celebrated her remarkable 112th birthday, surrounded by loved ones as she shared the secret to her long life.

Born in Jamaica in 1914, Dunbar credits her longevity to strong faith and staying close to family. Until recently, she was still cooking her own breakfast every morning and remaining active.

Speaking to younger generations, she advised:
"Treat them the best you can, because they are important."

Remembering Igwe Dr. Walter C. Eze (Okofia V) Nigeria's First Military Medical Doctor

Today, September 4th, marks the anniversary of the passing of a true pioneer. On this day in 1991, Ukpo Kingdom and Nigeria lost one of its finest sons.

Dr. Walter Chukwunwe Eze was born on November 13, 1925 into royalty the family of His Royal Highness Michael Eze, Okofia I and Eze n'Ukpo, the traditional ruler of Ukpo Kingdom in Dunukofia LGA, Anambra State.

From childhood, brilliance followed him. He attended the prestigious Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha from 1941 to 1945, then Higher College Yaba, and University College Ibadan, before flying abroad to make history.

Walter Eze continued his education in Canada where he studied Medicine at the University of Toronto, and later moved to the United States for a Masters degree in Experimental Surgery.

While in Canada, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and rose to the rank of Captain. When he returned to Nigeria, that experience made him historically the first Nigerian Military Medical Doctor a title still remembered today as Captain Dr. Walter Eze (Igwe Ukpo).

He held degrees of B.A, M.A, M.D, was a member of the New York Academy of Science and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

In 1955, shortly after completing his studies, Dr. Eze founded the prestigious Toronto Hospital, Onitsha named after Toronto General Hospital where he trained in Canada. The hospital at 2, Ukpo Street, Onitsha, became one of the most respected private hospitals in the East.

He served as Chief Consultant and later Medical Director of the hospital from 1959. For decades, Toronto Hospital was a beacon of modern medicine in Anambra.

Dr. Eze was not just a doctor; he was a king. He succeeded his father as Igwe Okofia V of Ukpo the traditional ruler of Ukpo Kingdom.

He balanced two worlds with grace the stethoscope and the royal staff. He was also a scholar, authoring The History of Dunukofia and Cultural Heritage in 1963, and served as People's Warden at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha.

He was the elder brother to renowned oil magnate Prince Engr. Arthur Eze.

In 1959, he married his beloved Justina Nebechianya Okafor, and their union was blessed with three sons and a daughter.

Igwe Dr. Walter C. Eze joined his ancestors on this day, September 4th, 1991 He was 65.

Today we remember not just a doctor, not just an Igwe, but a bridge-builder a man who proved that an Igbo prince could become a captain in a foreign army, a surgeon in two continents, and still return home to serve his people.

His Toronto Hospital still stands. His legacy as Nigeria's first military medical doctor remains unbroken. His royalty lives on in Ukpo.

May the soul of Igwe Dr. Walter C. Eze continue to rest in peace.

Legendary artist Dolly Parton, beloved godmother to Miley Cyrus, died at age 80.

Beyond her status as a music legend, Dolly was an icon remembered for her extraordinary talent, compassion, and unforgettable spirit that touched countless lives. Her legacy lives on, as does the special connection she had with Miley.

Dolly Parton, the country music icon celebrated for her chart-topping hits, philanthropy, and Dollywood theme park, has died at age 80.

Parton passed away peacefully on Tuesday in Nashville, according to her publicist, who did not disclose a cause of death. A small private service for immediate family will be held.

In September 2025, Parton shared on Instagram that she had been facing health challenges and that her doctors advised her to undergo several procedures, though she did not specify her condition.

At Dollywood's seasonal opening nearly six months later, she said she was still managing "a few little health issues" and taking time to recover.
Parton had also been grieving the March 2025 death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, noting that she was working to rebuild herself "spiritually, emotionally and physically."

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Parton's Imagination Library. Parton and Dean had no children. She was godmother to singer Miley Cyrus.
