Opera at CMU

Opera at CMU Every February and Spring, the CMU Opera Workshop brings opera and operetta to Howard County, MO on campus at Central Methodist University.

Join us February 16-19th for "Hail Poetry, Pirates and Gondoliers! in the Kountz Recital Hall! Thursday through Saturday are at 7:30pm, with a Sunday matinee at 4pm. CMU Opera Workshop presents annual scene programs of opera, operetta, and musical theater, in addition to one-act and full operas on campus at Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO. Students are welcome to participate in the Feb

ruary performances and in the summer, both students and interested community members are encouraged to audition. Guest artists and faculty are also invited to participate when appropriate. Learning to sing and act onstage as a soloist and as part of an ensemble is stressed as well as working with music and movement, gesture, characterization, and improved vocalism. This is all part of the opera workshop training and experience. Under the direction of Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan, CMU Opera has seen the following performances:

Our opera and musical scene program this February is titled :"Frolic, Folly and Fairytales" to be performed at the Linn Church February 17-20th with three evening performances Thursday- Saturday at 7:30pm and a Sunday 4pm matinee.

Scene Selections from the musicals Cinderella, Into the Woods, Once Upon a Mattress, and from the operas and operettas Hansel and Gretel, La Cenerentola, the Magic Flute, Iolanthe , The Sorcerer and Candide.

To Music, Masks and Merriment" presented by CMU opera workshop will postpone tomorrow afternoon's performance at 4pm to next Sunday Feb 21st at 4pm at The Linn Memorial Methodist Church due to forecast of poor weather conditions and wind chill for travel this Sunday.
