MORE INSTRUMENTS JOIN THE MUSICAL PARTY! Tonight after lessons finished up at 9PM, I continued working in the studio until midnight. I made another several trips up and down the 2 flights of stairs from my old virtual studio in the finished attic to my new 1st floor studio space in my mom’s former hair salon. I brought down the mandolin, violin, ukulele, and bass ukulele - polished them up, tuned them up, and set them up next to their friends in strings land! I also reorganized the desk again. My “work week” in the studio is Tuesday - Thursday evenings, so I will see y’all next Tuesday night! 🎵

Trombones & Saxophones in the house! Continuing to set more stuff up in the studio each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after lessons. Next week I'll get a little more done. But as for now, the midnight bells have tolled. Time to get some shuteye - tomorrow is another workday!

360 DEGREE VIRTUAL TOUR OF THE NEW STUDIO SPACE (SO FAR)! Still lots more to do, but I get a little bit more done each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night after lessons. Still one more night to go this week - so exciting!

Got the pedal board set up tonight. The new studio is coming together piece by piece! 🤩

NEW STUDIO SPACE SNEAK PEEK # 5 (From yet a different corner): Desk is just out of view to my left. Spent my Friday night getting a few more things set up. Polished up an old guitar that belonged to my late Uncle Dick and displayed it on the high shelf above the room divider. Moved the PA head from the high bookshelf on my desk to the main desktop area for ease of plugging in cables. Tested out playing the drum kit along with a recording so that you could hear both coming from the PA mains - sounds like you're right on stage with the band. Of course, there's still more to do, but that's for another night at this point. Good night from Music Lessons West "Studio G" (named in tribute to "Glory's" Hair Salon - my mom's business that used to occupy this space)! 🎵

NEW STUDIO SPACE SNEAK PEAK # 4: This pic is from the other side of the room (instruments are on the counters behind me and to my left).
Sometimes you just have to move a bunch of stuff, realize it fit better the way you had it, and move it all back again! That was my experience tonight. I tried moving the PA speakers and monitors under the counters and my bass amp next to my desk. Then moved 'em all back to their previous spots. Sometimes you don't know 'til you try!
Anyhoo, it's gettin' late and tomorrow's another workday (and another teaching night). Good night, all!

UPDATED SNEAK PEAK #3 OF THE NEW STUDIO SPACE! After I finished teaching tonight, I brought about 75 more method and sheet music books down 2 flights of stairs from my previous 3rd floor virtual studio to my new street-level commercial-ready studio space! Also hooked up the electronic drum set and got it plugged into the PA. Of course I had to pound out a couple rhythms just to make sure everything still works properly. 🥁 Things are really starting to take shape down here. But now I've got new streaming and recording equipment to hook up. Little by little, this place is going to be the most awesome teaching space I've ever had! 🤩

UPDATED SNEAK PEAK #2 OF THE NEW STUDIO SPACE! Tonight I got more of my string instruments brought in and set up (more guitars, basses, banjos, and an Appalachian Dulcimer). Yes, I play them all, but more importantly, I TEACH them all! Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. Interested in taking online music lessons with me? SNEAK PEEK AT THE NEW STUDIO SPACE! Just finished up working in the new studio tonight. I'm currently in the "soft opening" stage - as I started teaching in this space after the winter break from Knoxville Academy of Music, just in time for the beginning of the 2026 calendar year. I have enough equipment set up in here to teach my lessons for now - but I'm only getting started! I've got quite a few more instruments to bring in and set up, LOTS more instructional books and sheet music, some recording equipment, and a lifetime's worth of musical decorations! I'll never be able to display it all in here at the same time - so I'll have to rotate it in and out like a museum - LOL! I'll post my progress as I go. Lots of fun ahead at Music Lessons West!

08/28/2025

Closed up shop (the virtual studio) for the night. Wednesday means night 2 of 3 back-to-back evenings teaching online music lessons to my Knoxville Academy of Music students. Looking forward to tomorrow night already!

Music Lessons in West Knoxville with Ryan Byrne

Popular Knoxville music instructor Ryan Byrne teaches fretted strings including acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, banjo, mandolin, and ukulele as well as piano at Knoxville Academy of Music.

Ryan studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA for a year before going on to earn his B.S. in Music Education from Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH. He taught music in the New Hampshire Public School System for several years before making the move to Nashville, TN to further his performance career. He spent a decade as a Nashville touring bassist with indie country artist Stephen Cochran. In between tours, Ryan filled his downtime by working various music related temp jobs, including several years as a substitute teacher for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. In 2014, Ryan relocated to Knoxville, TN with his wife, Misha, and began substitute teaching for Knoxville Academy of Music. In 2016, he committed to a regular teaching schedule, eventually opening up 45 weekly lesson times, which are now consistently booked at near capacity. Ryan continues to perform regionally around the Southeast as the bassist for Liquid Velvet (formerly Groove Evolution) featuring Steve Rutledge and Alyssa Laine.
