Explore Grainger Hall - the hub for the English and Modern Languages Department! 📚☕️

Located right beside Rotunda, Grainger Hall is where most English and Modern Languages (EML) classes are taken. This is also where you will find the EML professors’ offices for your English, German, Spanish, French, or ESL classes.

If you major or minor in EML, you have a variety of options for post graduate life, including teacher, technical writer, lawyer, linguist, translator, editor, and more! These resources well prepare you to succeed in your academic journey! 🤩

And this is not all! The EML department is a fun place to learn as it hosts the annual Tree Lighting, Spanish Club meetings, Eats & Greets, end of the semester ice cream socials, game nights, and more!

• March Recap 💫

This month was filled with memorable and fun events for the community!

- To celebrate the end of Ramadan, Longwood’s Muslim Student Association hosted the campus and local community for the Iftar Night 🌙

- We had another year of community service through The Big Event - a morning where students’ volunteer to help our town 💙

- The U.S. Race and Ethnic Studies, in collaboration with the Cormier Honors College, hosted their 3rd annual Taste of Culture event! 🤩

- The Hispanic Latinx Association celebrated their 10th Founding anniversary through another edition of their Gala - “Una Decada de Excelencia” 💯

- Students joined professors in a Marathon Reading of John Milton’s Paradise Lost📚

- Seniors were honored in the Ring Ceremony, another tradition that symbolizes a step closer to graduation🎉

- Campus Rec hosted “Lancers Get Rec’d”, an active fun day challenge in exchange of prizes!✨

- The Center for Global Engagement had another successful Global Lancer’s Week with international movie showings, tableings, and other fun events!🎟️

- Students got to network and get to know possible future employers at the Spring Career Fair!🤝

☘️Happy St. Patrick’s Day!☘️💫

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He was born in Roman Britain (around the year 385), then was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He was later able to scape, but came back to Ireland to explain Christianity and spread its religion. In highlight, he supposedly used a shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity — The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The date started being celebrated by Roman Catholic persons by feasts in Ireland in between 9th and 10th centuries A.D., and in America in the 1600s and 1700s. With the Great Potato Famine in Ireland in 1845, around 1 million immigrants ended up coming to America to escape starvation. They were despised by many American Protestants, harassed by their heritage, but soon they started using their growing numbers for political power. Such as the voting blocks named the “Green Machine”, showing the strength of Irish Americans.

Today, St. Patrick’s Day it is seen as a fun day to celebrate Irish culture! People go to parades, create festivities, wear green, good luck charms, and have a good time with friends! ☘️🇮🇪🎉

🌎 We kicked off the semester with connecting students with clubs & orgs. at the Spring Student Involvement Fair

☃️Had some fun with the snow storm - unreal the amount of snow!

🎉Witnessed the reopening of the N.H. Scott Center!

📚Many students got their Teacher Pins at the Teacher Pinning Ceremony

🎓Celebrages our senior’s milestones at 100 Days ‘til the Tassel Turns with some good food, raffles, and more!

💫Greek life was in full swing with Sorority Bid Day and the Fraternity IFC Walk

🏆Brought home plenty of achievements in sports - congrats to all!

Thank you for everyone that made February incredible! Let’s keep the energy as we get to the last half of March! 🚀🌟
