What a week of adventure and discovery at Outdoor Adventures Camp! 🌿🦎🐾

With the help of the Piedmont Soil & Water Conservation District, campers learned to identify animals through s**t, tracks, and skulls, enjoyed reptile visits during a hands on introduction to reptiles, and explored aquatic ecosystems through dip netting and leaf pack investigations. They also learned what macroinvertebrates are and how scientists use them to determine water quality and practiced along the Fuqua School Nature Trail creek. They also explored Wilck's Lake Park.

The week also included a hike and educational tour of High Bridge Trail, followed by a trip to Twin Lakes State Park, where campers dissected owl pellets, participated in hands-on nature activities, and explored the park. It was a week filled with learning, exploration, and outdoor fun!

Fuqua School is pleased to announce that Henry G. Austin II (H.G.) has joined its administrative team as Director of Operations and Transportation.

H.G. graduated from Carlisle School (K-12) and later attended Bridgewater College, Patrick Henry Community College and Longwood University. H.G. spent the last 23 years in fire and EMS, where he learned the value of hard work, determination, teamwork and a commitment to selflessness and community. He has worked part time in numerous construction fields, including working with Colin Stokes of Stokes Construction.

His wife, Ashley (Atkins), began her educational journey at Prince Edward Academy and later graduated from Fuqua School. Together, they have two sons currently attending Fuqua: Clay, a sophomore, and Beau, a fourth-grade student.

A dedicated supporter of youth athletics, H.G. has coached baseball at both Fuqua and PEFYA. In 2024, his PEFYA Division II Majors team captured the state championship and advanced to the DYB Majors World Series in Bossier City, Louisiana. When he's not on the ballfield, H.G. enjoys spending time with his family, coaching, cooking, hunting, fishing, and staying busy with work and projects.

🇵🇦 After an unforgettable adventure in Costa Rica, Fuqua School students continued their journey in Panama City! From exploring the historic streets of Casco Antiguo and learning about Panama’s history and culture, to visiting the Biomuseo and experiencing the world-famous Panama Canal at the Miraflores Visitor Center, every day was filled with discovery and learning.

A boat tour on Gatun Lake offered opportunities to spot several monkey species and reptiles around Monkey Island while providing a closer look at the unique ecosystem surrounding the Panama Canal. The group also passed by Fort Clayton, a former U.S. military base that offered insight into Panama’s connection to the United States and the history of the canal.

The experience was capped off with a memorable Panamanian Folklore Evening featuring a traditional dinner, colorful cultural performances, and lively dances that highlighted the rich traditions of Panama.

What an incredible way to conclude a journey filled with adventure, cultural immersion, and unforgettable memories! 🌎🚢🐒🇵🇦
