Congrats to Karyn Keane, our Professional Writing alum, on her new position at Letterpress Communications! 💐
We’re thrilled to welcome aboard our new account coordinator, Karyn Keane! Karyn has been a dedicated member of our team in a contractor capacity for several years, continually learning and growing with the company as a social media pro, writer and copy editor. We are so excited for her to move into a full-time position with Letterpress. (As a plus, she’s a grad of the Longwood English & Modern Languages Department, just like our founder, Ilsa Loeser!)
Join us in congratulating Karyn on her new position in the comments!

Our program director, Dr. Hazel E. Guler, recently hosted a webinar on doing global rhetorical research. Dr. Guler also serves as the chair of The Global & Non-Western Rhetorics Standing Group at CCCC (The Conference on College Composition and Communication), the sponsor of this webinar.
Webinar description: “Rhetoric” encompasses various cultural conventions and innovations in writing and communication. A globally inclusive rhetorical praxis requires discovering new terminologies and theories. But, what is this discovery process like for Global and Non-Western Rhetoricians? In this webinar, Dr. Xiaoye You will speak and answer the audience's questions about doing global and non-Western rhetorical research.
Dr. You is a Professor of English and Asian Studies at The Pennsylvania State University. He is the author of Genre Networks and Empire: Rhetoric in Early Imperial China (2023), in addition to his many other acclaimed works in global rhetorical studies. He is the winner of CCCC's 2018 Research Impact Award and 2011 Outstanding Book Award.”
The full webinar flyer is in the comments.

On the last day of classes in April 2015, Dr. Hazel E. Guler and her History of Rhetoric students held their, "Eat, Travel, Practice Rhetoric” event to transport Longwood members back in time and practice rhetoric with Aristotle, Aspasia, Cicero and more during different historical periods in Western contexts! President Reveley visited the tent on the Grainger lawn to listen to the students and practice rhetoric with them, too! The President noted that he read some of Cicero's works and was influenced by his rhetoric, too! :-)

Congratulations to Ireland Seagle, one of our English/Professional Writing seniors, on her Longwood Research and Inquiry Award! Ireland was nominated and received the award for her forthcoming publication in Incite: Undergraduate Journal of Scholarship as well as her multiple publications in the Farmville Magazine and her work for our Professional Writing Program’s social media.
Ireland’s article, "The Wolf as Metaphor in Paramount Network’s Yellowstone," was also named the Best Humanities Paper in the 2023 issue of Incite. The article resulted from Ireland’s rhetorical scholarship in one of our program courses, ENGL 301: Rhetorical Criticism with Dr. Lettner-Rust.
Our Program Director, Dr. Hazel E. Guler said: "We are incredibly proud of Ireland, who will graduate from our English/Professional Writing Program with flying colors this May! We cannot recommend her enough for her work ethic and professionalism with any task she's given." 🙌
