May came fast 😭 last week the children were excited to discover that our butterflies had emerged from their chrysalis, completed a booklet about the life cycle of a butterfly, created “fireflies in a jar” in relation to two of our stories last week, cleaned our classroom together and packed all our things, watched our fellow VNS students Moving On celebration!
We enjoyed a picnic lunch on our last day of school and
had the exciting experience of releasing our butterflies outside! What a fun school year. We all learned so much 📚✂️✏️ We will miss everyone! Have a wonderful summer VNS families ❤️

Last week we created beautiful “drip paint” butterflies that are gracing our classroom bulletin board, continued working on creating word families, worked hard on creating a linear sequence of all the foods that “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” ate and enjoyed writing letters and words on their whiteboards- a favorite Friday activity!

Last week the children were introduced to our newly acquired classroom caterpillars that we expect will demonstrate the process of metamorphosis and become butterflies! We also visited the Farmington Food Pantry and learned about how their recent contributions will help others in their own community!

Last weeks highlight was our in school “field trip” and the children were fascinated by the various reptiles and amphibians that Ms. Rose brought for them to observe, learn about and even touch if they wanted to! We saw and learned about a gray tree frog, a red-eyed tree frog, Dottie, the spotted turtle, Yoda, an Eastern box turtle, Picasso, the painted turtle, a snapping turtle’s shell, and a corn snake.

We also learned more about the letter Yy and contributed many words that begin with Y for our word board, colored and read together a booklet about things that happen in the spring, participated in an exploration involving repotting one of our plants that had outgrown its pot, completed a cut and glue math activity focused on identifying and continuing various patterns, created unique art using various colors of yarn. (fun with letter Y)and practiced writing letters and their full names on their whiteboards.
