The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) addresses the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, sensory, and other aspects of daily living. The OTA supports an individual’s or a group’s participation in everyday life activities and occupations to meet the local needs of the community. Clients may need therapy due to a physical injury, a disease process, aging, or cognitive problems from mental illness or alcohol and drug abuse, or to improve quality of life. Occupational therapy assistants are employed in hospitals, outpatient facilities, skilled nursing facilities, mental health facilities, schools, community agencies, and home-health care.

was a success! The OTA program went to Aztec schools to talk to the 9th graders about back pack safety and ergonomics. It included education about the heavy load we carry with our mental health. They were taught strategies and given resources that can help them lighten the load is stress, loneliness, peer pressure, depression and anxiety.

Our second-year OTA students are officially beginning their final semester of on-campus coursework before heading out to Level II Fieldwork! 💜

They’ve worked hard, grown so much, and made plenty of memories along the way—and now they’re one step closer to becoming OT practitioners.
