Educational Consulting and Advocacy M.Ed Special Education
Certified PLAY Project Home Consultant Parents deserve someone to help them navigate through the school system.

While there is an increasing rate of children receiving an autism diagnosis, there has yet to be an established protocol on how these children will be educated. Many families face an upward struggle understanding not only the IEP process, but also how to receive the best possible services and placement for their child. Parents are often left feeling confused, defeated and disappointed when dealing

with the school system. They deserve a trusted professional, dedicated to serving children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Sara has always had a passion for working with children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder. She currently works as P.L.A.Y. Project as a Home Consultant, under direction of Dr. Richard Solomon MD. Sara also taught in the public school system for over a decade as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher. Sara received her BS in Special Education with a specialization in Early Intervention at Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She received her Master’s of Education with a major in Special Education and a focus on autism from Wayne State University in Michigan. Sara is a certified teacher with three special education endorsements: Learning Disabilities, Cognitive Impairments and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

I’m often asked, what is a behavioral intervention plan and how can it help? A behavioral intervention plan also known as a BIP can help in the following ways: it can help provide a structured plan to support the student so that undesired behavior does not occur. This gives the team a clear plan so everyone responds the same way, which is essential. It can also help to collect data on how the plan is working or what changes are noticed. The team should meet every 6 weeks to review the plan and data to see how it’s working and what may need to be changed.
