The Hillel Day School Early Childhood Center is designed to foster a love of learning in young children in a warm and nuturing Jewish environment. Our exceptional staff integrates an exciting, comprehensive curriculum with hands-on experiences that meets the needs of each child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Our highly trained teachers collaborate regularly with the entire Hillel Day School K-8 staff.

ECC3 students in Miss Stacy's class and some friends from neighboring classrooms, celebrated peace week in their classroom to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. They explored the idea of peace through their senses, making peace cake, decorating peace rocks, and visiting a peace station.

Room 25 had a party today to celebrate their kindness chart. Each day students were kind to their teachers or to one another they were able to work together to fill in a square on their chart. Once they filled their chart, it was PARTY TIME! Room 25 began their celebration with a pajama day, they worked together as a class and made cupcakes for the first time this year. They even took a field trip to visit Piper the rat in the 3-4 community followed by a dance party. Room 25 wrapped up the party up frosting and eating their delicious cupcakes! We are so proud of our students for achieving their goal. Kol Hakavod room 25!

This week, the ECC4's in Barbara Dworin's class dove into their learning in a perfect demonstration of the ECC's play-based, child-driven educational philosophy. After watching her students create an imaginary diner in the classroom, Ms. Barbara pivoted from her lesson plan to turn her students' creation into a learning opportunity. The class held a brainstorming session and decided to turn their diner into a bakery and ice cream shop.

The class then spent the week engaging in activities integrating math, science, language, and literacy. Students practiced their phonemic awareness skills while writing in their journals and creating a menu, and sounded out words while filling out their restaurant checks at the tables. By sorting and counting ice cream cones and ice cream scoops, they reviewed number recognition and one to one correspondence skills. They graphed their favorite flavor ice cream and drew yummy ice cream cones to sell in their shop.

While play is great, the students wanted the real thing, so, they had a science lesson where they turned a liquid into a solid while making ice cream. Students were given ice cream bucks, and ordered in Hebrew at the ice cream stand for a delicious snack. Of course, they also incorporated the letter of the day, "I," and finished the week chanting "I scream, you scream, We all scream for ice cream!"
