Battle of Pleasant Hill Reenactment APRIL 10-12: Are you coming?
Greetings!
It is time for the Battle of Pleasant Hill (BOPH): our largest annual regional reenacting event! Please let me know the following now:
if you are coming,
when you are coming,
if you plan to camp or drive in each day,
and if you need loaner equipment from me (let me know by Wednesday, April 8 at 4:00 p.m.).
The address for the Pleasant Hill Battlefield is 23271 Hwy. 175, Pelican, LA. Even though we are under drought conditions at this time, excessive rainfall is normal for April in Louisiana. Always prepare for wet conditions when you arrive at this event. Because the dirt driveway tends to turn extremely muddy, the BOPH could possibly lock the gate to allow time for the driveway to dry. In this eventuality, be prepared to carry your gear and equipment by hand into the period camp. I use a collapsible red wagon for these instances: https://www.academy.com/.../academy-sports-outdoors...
At this time, I plan to arrive Friday around 12:00 p.m.
If any 31st LA members or new recruits arrive before me, please check with Colonel Gary Stephens or Lt. Colonel Paul Gramling so they can help you set up your tent in the correct place. Otherwise or if you are uncertain, you can wait until I arrive to set up your tent. If you place your tent in the incorrect spot, you will be asked to move your tent: You do not want to do that.
Remember, we plan to be Federal this year, but bring your gray uniform just in case the need arises.
If you have not already done so, please register at the event website: www.battleofpleasanthill.com. Registration is $10.00 per reenactor. If you experience technical difficulties, please register at the dogtrot house when you arrive. If you registered online, you must still check in at the dogtrot house. If you fail to register, you will not participate in the battles and you will not receive a valuable ration.
Reenactor parking is across the highway behind Katelyn (BOPH event coordinator) and Cory Calhoun's home. Their backyard slopes downhill. The further downhill you park, the wetter the ground. Arrive as early as possible to park on higher ground closer to the house and the campsite.
Friday is School Day from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Food vendors will be set up down the hill from the reenactment Saturday and Sunday. At this time, plan for your own meals.
All event information and schedule is posted on the event website: www.battleofpleasanthill.com. Carefully peruse the reenactor schedule and rules on the website: https://battleofpleasanthill.com/
If you plan to drive in, if you are new, or if you must borrow equipment, please arrive by 8:00 a.m. Saturday so we have time to get you prepared. Please do your homework and roll about 150 cartridges. We may need you to help provide ammunition for new recruits.
Also, all participants must be registered and paid at the dogtrot house by 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
I will post updates as needed. If you have any questions, please let me know. We hope to see you there!
