Did you know that different parts of your brain either support you acting on your future, or keep you from acting. In a sense your brain is in conflict with itself. (Relax, you're not alone.)
The PFC (pre-frontal cortex) in the brain is the seat of your ability to envision a compelling future for yourself. The PFC is that part of the brain that enables you to create, and to act upon a vision of the future. However, there is also a part of your brain that tries to maintain the status quo. Part of the limbic system in your brain seeks to avoid risk and danger - in other words change. What this means is there is a neurological reason when you find yourself stuck in old habits, seemingly unwilling to change.
The great news is that the brain has neuroplasticity. The parts of the brain that we use frequently actually grow in size, and the parts that we don't use so much shrink. You can enhance the power of your PFC simply by using it! You can learn to quiet the limbic system when it tries to keep you from acting. In fact, the neurons that you use to create your vision are the very same ones that fire when you act on your vision. Simply by creating and nurturing your vision, you are setting yourself up for success!
