This week, our students celebrated the harvest of the onions and leeks they helped plant, nurture, and care for in our garden. Harvesting food they have grown themselves is a meaningful part of the Montessori experience, connecting children directly to nature and helping them understand the cycle of growth from seed to table. Through hands-on gardening, students develop patience, responsibility, observation skills, and a deep appreciation for the work that goes into producing food. The harvest also provides opportunities for practical life experiences, scientific discovery, and lessons in sustainability, while fostering a sense of accomplishment and pride in contributing to our school community.
