Kayla Dornfeld • 2019 North Dakota Teacher of the Year • 2020 Top USA Educator of the Year

Mapleton teacher named Empowered Woman of the Year 05/25/2026

Very excited about this honor and to be featured on a billboard in Times Square in December!

"Being named Empowered Woman of the Year means so much to me because I want my daughters to grow up seeing their mom as someone who leads with kindness, works hard, uplifts others and uses her voice to make a difference," Dornfeld said. "I hope they see that women can be strong leaders, supportive friends and successful business owners while still serving and encouraging the people around them."

Mapleton teacher named Empowered Woman of the Year The International Association of Top Professionals will recognize Kayla Dornfield at a ceremony later this year.

With only a few weeks left of school, your class may be a little extra wiggly, full of energy, and in need of our new favorite game, ✨Broken Bridge ✨

How to Play:

🤍 Gather your Class in a circle with a ball
🤍 Have students hit the ball around the circle
🤍 If the ball is hit between your legs you are out! & if the ball is hit between two players legs, they are both out!
🤍 Repeat until the circle shrinks and only 1 player is left!

This game gives students the opportunity to exert some energy, practice good sportsmanship, and encourage their fellow classmates! Let me know if you try this with your students!

Try Count Em Up with your class 💯An easy way to make math FUN!

This is a game my students love, and it’s very simple!

Here’s how you play:

💙 Have students stand in groups of pairs & put their hands behind their backs
💙 When you say GO, students show their partner how many fingers they are holding up
💙 Each student races to shout the total sum of fingers

It’s quick, effective, and competitive! Who said math can’t be fun? Try this with your class and watch them fall in love with addition and subtraction! Feeling advanced? Try out multiplication!

Try Don’t Sit at the Same Time with your class! 🚫🪑🤣
If your class needs a quick brain break that still gets them thinking, this is SUCH a fun one to try! My students were completely locked in the entire time 👀😂

How to play:
💙 Students stand in a circle SILENTLY
💙 Students choose when they want to try to sit, and then sit!
💙 If 2 students sit at the same time… they’re OUT!

Why we love it:
✔️Builds focus and listening skills
✔️Encourages strategy and timing
✔️Gets every student involved
✔️Perfect for brain breaks, indoor recess, or those wild end-of-year days 😂

It’s simple, no prep, and SO much fun watching them try to outsmart each other 🤣

Save this for your next classroom brain break and tag a teacher who would totally try this with their class! 🫶

Try Switch it Up with your class!

This quick-thinking game is such a fun way to get students engaged and stretch their brains!

Here’s how to play:
✏️Start with a simple word on the board
✏️A student will come up and change ONE letter to make a new word
✏️Next students builds off that word…again, only changing one letter!
✏️Keep it going as long as you can!

It sounds simple, but really gets them thinking about spelling patterns, vocabulary, and word structure in a hands-on way!

Save this for your next lesson and tag a teacher who needs this game in their life! 🫶

Moms really are the best. 🩷

I love how this part of our gifts for Mother’s Day turned out. Their messages to their moms are everything. 🥹 Next step, laminate them and add magnet tape for the best addition to the fridge. 🌸

Thanks for the inspo! 🫶🏻

Try Tapple with your class!

⭐️How to play:
Give a category and have students go around the circle, saying a word that fits while grabbing the matching first letter off the floor.

We love using vocabulary words and book titles, but you can switch it up for ANY subject. You might start off easy with foods or colors.

What categories would your class love? 💕

Perfect for brain breaks, morning meeting, or sneaky vocabulary practice.

Why it works:
✔️ builds vocabulary
✔️ keeps kids engaged and moving
✔️ strengthens listening and quick thinking
✔️ low prep, high engagement
It’s fast, a little competitive, and so much fun.

💛Save this for later and try it this week. Tell me how it goes!

My trick to surviving the last few weeks of school? Dress the way you want to feel!

What I wore to teach 3rd grade: Spring edition🌸✨

Nothing says spring in the classroom like an easy, flowy dress and a pop of color! I love having pieces I can move in all day but still feel put together💗

This dress from is one of those throw on-and-go outfits that still feels fun, feminine, and classroom-ready!
