NDSU is accepting applications for a new online nurse practitioner certificate program aimed at helping address shortages in acute care settings.
To address the critical workforce shortage of nurses who work in the field of caring for the aging population, NDSU is launching a new program.
The "Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner" certificate is now open for applications.
Applicants must already be a graduate of an accredited family nurse practitioner program. It's an online course, so nurses can continue working while expanding their skills at the same time.
Mykell Barnacle, a professor of practice with the NDSU School of Nursing, said nurses will need to complete 600 clinical hours and a year of coursework to obtain it.
"Well, the health care needs of the population are not getting more simple. Health care is more complex all the time, and there's also a shortage of health care workers in critical areas like the hospitals or acute care settings," Barnacle said.
The course will start this fall.
