SUMMER INTERNSHIP UPDATES

We’re taking a break from the heat wave to share some cool internship updates from members of the 2026 NDSU Livestock Judging Team.

While competitive livestock judging remains our top priority, we also encourage our students to gain hands-on industry experience through internships and other professional opportunities. These experiences help develop well-rounded leaders who are prepared to make meaningful contributions to the livestock industry after their collegiate judging careers are over.

Join us in congratulating our students on these outstanding opportunities!

BISON YOUTH LIVESTOCK JUDGING CAMP

Scroll through the photos below for a look back at an incredible camp and to recognize this year's award winners!

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2026 Bison Youth Livestock Judging Camp. Our team had a great time hosting an outstanding group of young people with bright futures in livestock evaluation!

Throughout the week, campers evaluated classes across multiple species, delivered numerous sets of reasons, and received valuable one-on-one instruction from our group leaders. Outside of judging, campers enjoyed kickball, mini golf, card games, and plenty of time building friendships.

A unique feature of camp was the recording of several class breakdowns. Participants now have access to these discussions to reinforce the concepts covered throughout the week and continue preparing for future competitions.

A special thank you to the NDSU Beef Unit and the Red River Valley Fair's Livestock Enrichment Program for providing livestock for the camp. We also appreciate the staff in NDSU Dining and Residence Life for helping create an outstanding experience for our campers.

We hope to see you all at the 2027 Bison Youth Livestock Judging Camp – lookout for dates soon!

Student leaders who made this camp possible: Payton Beare, Jackson Howard, Grace Mehlhoff, Grace Ones, Keith Pluimer, and Stran Ressler.

BANQUET

Last Saturday students, alumni, administrators, parents, and program supporters gathered in the Peltier Complex to celebrate judging teams at NDSU.

Students were presented with buckles, awards, and scholarships, recognizing their efforts competing on the Meat Animal Evaluation and Livestock Judging teams at North Dakota State.

Participants took in a wonderful prime rib dinner provided by the Animal Science Education Foundation, shared memories, and even got to watch the Kentucky Derby during the meal.

We appreciate all of their continued support. The future remains bright in Fargo! Photography courtesy of team member Cora Schaunaman.
