Meat Science faculty and students traveled last week to Amarillo, TX to participate in the 79th Reciprocal Meat Conference held by the American Meat Science Association. A special part of this year’s conference was to celebrate 100 years of Collegiate Meats Judging. NDSU Animal Science faculty attending the conference included Eric Berg and Kasey Carlin as well as Emeritus Faculty Paul Berg. Graduate student Charles Bunker presented his M.S. research on meat quality and carcass traits of progeny steers from heifers fed either a high concentrate or high forage diet during gestion. The undergraduate quiz bowl team did very well and was in the top 10 of 45 teams. The team consisted of Alex Volk, Joshua Braxton, and Andee Sellers and coached by Charles Bunker. Alex Volk was awarded the Outstanding Undergraduate Award.
