In early May, our beloved Kelly Paynter received the Distinguished Staff Award for the College of Arts and Sciences in recognition of her years of dedicated service to the department and NDSU.

Kelly’s wealth of institutional knowledge and steady support make a difference every day. We are incredibly grateful for all she does and couldn’t imagine the department without her.

Congratulations, Kelly!

We love service leaning!

Thanks for the partnership, Sollera!

To the students in Dr. Beck’s Comm 315 class at North Dakota State Bison, thank you.

You came in after hours and got to work. You reorganized our resource room, brought in bins and supplies, and helped turn it into a space that’s easier to use and ready for the families we serve.

And you didn’t stop there. You saw the need firsthand and helped meet it through your fundraising efforts.

Because of you, this space feels more welcoming, more organized, and more ready to support people when they need it most.

We’re grateful you chose Sollera. And we’re really grateful for how you showed up.

Earlier this month, Dr. Melissa Vosen Callens won the College of Arts and Sciences Non-Tenure Line Research and Creative Activity Award. Dr. Callens’s research focuses on how pop culture can generate and articulate our understanding of the world around us.

She is the author of two books: Ode to X: Institutional Cynicism in 1980s Film and Stranger Things (2021) and Good Old-Fashioned Values: Gender and Family in Family Guy, American Dad! and The Cleveland Show (2024).

All of our graduates receive a Department of Communication pin, a reminder of their journey with us and a symbol of the role they now play in representing our department in the workforce.

Seniors who were able to attend our Honors Reception received their pin on May 6, while those who could not attend stopped by Minard Hall prior to commencement.

We miss them already!
