Dakota Montessori School (DMS) offers education that sparks curiosity, creativity, and intelligence present in every child. We are an authentic Montessori school that proudly uses the methods and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, an internationally known educator. Dr. Montessori developed her philosophy and mapped out an approach to learning that is especially well suited to preparing children f

or success. DMS opened in Fargo, ND in 1969 as a not-for-profit organization. DMS is organized as a North Dakota nonprofit corporation (501 C3) and governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees. DMS provides a unique experience meeting the individual needs of children from six weeks through sixth grade. We have a history of success spanning over forty-six years. DMS has grown from a small children’s house in a rented space to serving approximately 180 students currently in our state-of-the-art school with over an acre of spacious grounds. We are a 9-month academic program with a summer camp learning environment. Our Montessori philosophy and talented teachers provide a model place for children. The excellence of our programs led to the steadily increasing enrollment and a need for a larger facility. After a generous gift from the Gary and Connie Tharaldson Family Fund in 2001, DMS moved into our current facility at 1134 Westrac Dr. in Fargo, ND, and we have enjoyed an exemplary program on a beautiful site. DMS is a member of the American Montessori Society (AMS) for infants through sixth grade. DMS also is licensed by the North Dakota Department of Human Services and approved by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction.

What an incredible day at the 2026 North Dakota State Spelling Bee! We are excited to celebrate our top four finishers:

🥇 1st Place: Chilaka Ugobi - 8th Grade - Ward County
🥈 2nd Place: Chaitanya Gopi - 6th Grade - Cass County
🥉 3rd Place: Sam Edward Pasag - 8th Grade - Grant County
🏅 4th Place: Callen Gelsinger - 8th Grade - Stark County

These students showcased outstanding spelling skills, determination, and composure throughout the competition. We couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments!

Awards were presented by Cecile Wehrman, Director of the North Dakota Newspaper Association, and Nikki Johnsrud, President of the North Dakota Association of County Superintendents.

Best of luck to Chilaka as he advances to represent North Dakota at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May!

📢🐝 Cass County Spelling Bee Results! 🐝📢

On Friday, February 7th, 47 students from 10 different schools competed in the annual Cass County Spelling Bee, showcasing their spelling skills in an exciting competition!

Congratulations to our top spellers!
🏆 Champion: Chaitanya Gopi (5th grade, Dakota Montessori School)
🥈 Runner-Up: Sophia Lequin (6th grade, Cheney Middle School)

After a thrilling head-to-head spell-off with Adair Enz (6th grade, Ben Franklin Middle School), Sophia secured second place and a spot at State!

Both Chaitanya and Sophia will represent Cass County at the State Spelling Bee in Bismarck on March 17, 2025 at the Bismarck Event Center!
