NDSU Apparel, Merchandising, Interior Design and Hospitality Management Advancing Life Quality, Economic Well-Being, and Addressing Personal and Societal Needs Through Engagement Learning, and Discovery in the Near Environment

We have many opportunities to offer students interested in our areas of study. Our programs are professionally based with elements of design, technology, and management interlaced into our majors. The strong general education component teaches students to integrate subject matter and solve problems. Course work in all of our majors provides students with "real life" projects. For example, interior

design students frequently work on design solutions on campus or in the community. Students in our visual merchandising class create displays for local retail stores. Majors in hospitality and tourism management cater events both on and off campus. We offer study tours regionally, nationally, and internationally to such places as; Chicago; New York; Los Angeles; Las Vegas, London and Paris. Students may also choose to attend schools in such places as New York City, London or Geneva, Switzerland (just to name a few) for a summer, a semester, or a year. Numerous other study abroad programs around the world are available to our student via the office of International Programs. Students work with an advisor to ensure that the transfer of credits occurs prior to taking advantage of one of these opportunities. There are active student organizations in each of our major areas of study. Students plan educational programs attend regional and national professional meetings, undertake service projects for the NDSU campus and the Fargo/Moorhead community and often plan field trips to visit manufacturers, interior design firms, museums, trade shows, hotels, resorts, restaurants and the like. All of these opportunities provide students with experience that highlights the use of their college education as well as broadens their thinking about the world around them. We recognize that we live and work in a global environment and prepare our students for career opportunities anywhere. Students find wonderful job opportunities in their fields after graduation. The careers our students pursue are always fast paced and few are "sit behind a desk" jobs. Salaries are very good. The most recent report shows salary ranges between $27,000 and $48,000 for 2011 graduates, dependent on the student's major. Contact our department if you are interested in one these programs. We would be happy to visit with you personally about your interests and career goals. We can arrange a campus and department tour, a visit to a class, or a meeting with one of our current students or faculty members.
