Let's talk about the concepts of community and social media for a second. Folks love to say social media is bad for society but as I scrolled down my personal page today it was absolutely flooded with this post over and over. Over 100 people have shared that original post to help these girls out, and that's a beautiful thing. It really shows how vibrant and strong an agricultural community can be.
If used properly social media is an amazing tool to educate, and to foster the agricultural community. I know I've seen and been positively impacted by many agricultural influencers online that I would have never heard of without social media's algorithms. I know what I consume on social media has broadened my ag horizons, and hopefully what I post can broaden someone else's.
Thank you to everyone who continues to like and share the original post! Let's use social media platforms to their fullest positive extents and hopefully get some buckles at the Northern Lights show this summer!

Whenever I get a chance to process some piglets you know I'm gonna go! Processing includes needle teeth clipping, ear notching, tail docking, and vaccination.
I love getting to hold the babies and check over them thoroughly as I take care of them.

Daily reminder that the word "natural" on food labels π means π absolutely π nothing! The term is not regulated and anybody can slap it on a label. The more you know...

Today I saw a post of someone bragging about how the fancy expensive organic chicken they feed their children contains "no hormones". This is wrong for two reasons!
1. Hormones are in organic chicken! All animals have hormones in their bodies. (PS. These naturally occuring hormones won't hurt you!)
2. If they were talking about ADDED hormones no chicken (or pork) in America has added growth hormones. That is ILLEGAL. America has a great food safety inspection service (FSIS) that makes sure our food adheres to the law.
I'm glad this person is consuming mindfully! But please double triple check your opinions before you post them on the internet π

One thing I have consistently spoken up about since starting this page is speaking up for what you believe in. Today I practiced what I preached by writing a letter to a representative. I shared my questions and concerns about a bill that might affect my life. I firmly believe the role of government is to consider the needs of all citizens, but, (spoiler alert) the government doesn't know what you want unless you tell them! It was a weird and slightly scary thing to do, but I urge all of you to be as loud (but polite and kind) as you can for the things you believe in! It could be something as small as telling someone "Hey, what you did was mean!" Or it could be something as big as organizing a protest or petition.

I'm so proud to hear my youngest sister speaking about agriculture π«Ά! The way to preserve agriculture is speaking up about it.

Happy national agriculture day! Take a minute to reflect on your favorite agricultural memories and if you're financially inclined take a moment to support your favorite local producer! This is the industry that feeds and clothes us all and I will never stop encouraging people to cherish it!

If you're into livestock or veterinary medicine I highly recommend Dr. Pol's memoir! It's not too long of a read and it contains many stories. There are sad spots, funny spots, and the whole book reads like you're visiting with him at the kitchen table!
My favorite part was when he revealed he agreed to make the TV show to stand up for the small Midwestern farmer. If I've said it once I've said it a million times, it's so important to stand up for what you believe in!

We π need π ag π in π schools π
I love to see schools teaching kids important life skills like how to break down your own meat! This will save these kids a lottt of money at the grocery store one day.

Time to shine the spotlight on the beef industry! For my fellow Minnesotans you may be happy to hear that the MN Beef Expo had its largest expo to date this last weekend! You will also be happy to hear that MN Is number 10 in cattle production in the nation and that over 47,000 jobs in Minnesota are created from the beef industry, according to the MN Beef Council.
The beef industry and more specifically the Minnesota beef industry has provided me with a lot of friends and opportunities. I am so glad to hear that the industry is going strong, and we had more youngsters than ever in the cities last weekend participating in exhibiting and the educational events!
