VIPS is pleased to announce the September “Student Volunteer of the Month,” is FHS senior Luke DiNicola, son of Maureen and Arturo DiNicola of Falmouth.
Luke is a member of the National Honors Society, Math Honors Society, and Science Honors Society. He is a member of the FHS Lacrosse Team, the FHS Lunch Time Activities Club, Team Chase, and the FHS Jesus Club. He is also a member of and volunteers for the National Ski Patrol and Abilities to Include, Inc.
In addition to volunteering many hours for the National Ski Patrol, Luke’s volunteer time includes the FHS Health Fair, FHS Open House tours, helping with community home improvement projects, Team Chase and the Falmouth Road Race.
Luke says he enjoys volunteering because it gives him the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone else’s life. “Whether the impact comes from helping someone directly or supporting an organization and its mission, I find it rewarding to know that my time and effort can benefit others. Volunteering, Luke says, “has also introduced a feeling of immense pride knowing that I did something for a greater cause and due to that I get a warm feeling of weightlessness from spending my time doing something good.”
Luke says that participating in the Falmouth Road Race to raise money for Team Chase was one of the most meaningful volunteering experiences he has had. “Team Chase represents the idea that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate, be supported, and feel included, regardless of the challenges they may face. Being able to raise money and awareness for that mission gave the race a much greater purpose than simply crossing the finish line,” he says. “It showed me the importance of supporting organizations and expressing kindness to everyone because kindness is free.”
