For more than 100 years, we’ve been putting university research to work in homes, businesses, farms, and communities—in every corner of Maine. Our educational efforts focus on the Maine Food System, Positive Youth Development, and Community and Economic Development. UMaine Extension Cumberland County gives local residents access to

the resources and expertise of the University of Maine. Through educational programs, publications, and events, UMaine Extension delivers unbiased, research-based information to Cumberland County citizens. We can answer your questions on a wide array of topics. UMaine Extension’s successful educational programs result from a federal, state, and county partnership that addresses the issues of Cumberland County residents. Since 1919, when the Maine Legislature passed the County Extension Act, the University of Maine has been in all Maine communities with a local county office that is funded in part by each county government. The Cumberland County Extension Association (CCEA) oversees the funding allocated by the Cumberland County Commissioners, which provides the residence, support staff, and basic operations for UMaine Extension in Cumberland County. Join UMaine Extension’s Farm and Tractor Safety Team at Applewood Farm for an on-farm workshop demonstrating the fundamentals of tractor safety. Designed for youth, farm workers, and new tractor owners.

Participants will:
- Observe safe and efficient implement attachment and use.
- Learn about tractor parts and basic maintenance for the safety and longevity of the equipment.

Join UMaine Extension’s Farm and Tractor Safety Team at Applewood Farm in New Gloucester for an on-farm workshop demonstrating the fundamentals of tractor safety. This workshop will include an overview of safety risks when operating a tractor and steps for avoiding accidents. Instructors will demonstrate safe and efficient implement attachment and use. Participants will also learn about tractor parts and basic maintenance for the safety and longevity of the equipment.

This program is designed for youth, farm workers, and new tractor owners to increase their awareness of the risks associated with operating equipment and the basics of safe operation. Dinner will be provided.
